The EU apparently cannot do what the US wants to do, to protect its own industries, in this case our defense industry.

EU leaders — 22 of whose nations are also members of the U.S.-led NATO alliance — agreed last year to jointly develop or purchase military equipment like drones. Washington is concerned now that the bidding process might exclude U.S. firms.

One could argue the US does the exact same thing. If examined the 2011 KCX program for the new USAF Stratotanker was rigged in favor of Boeing. Now, European companies are not explicitly excluded EADS (Airbus' parent company) did offer a superior product. The final decision...Boeing underbid by less than 1%...Gee..I wonder how they knew the other guy's number....hmmmm?

Good, they won't need any more aid money.

Sounds like much ado about nothing. When G.B. drops out of the E.U. they will be back whining about U.S. contributions to NATO.
