How the Wealthy Use the Government to Stay Rich and Get Richer

The Conservative Nanny State, by Dean Baker

"In his new book, economist Dean Baker debunks the myth that conservatives favor the market over government intervention. In fact, conservatives rely on a range of “nanny state” policies that ensure the rich get richer while leaving most Americans worse off. It’s time for the rules to change. Sound economic policy should harness the market in ways that produce desirable social outcomes – decent wages, good jobs and affordable health care."

Your fundamental logic flaw, as in all liberals, is the absolutely fallacy that business has a social purpose. You go into business for one and only one reason.....to make money. There is NO OTHER PURPOSE for business. Business that makes money for it's owners, STAYS IN BUSINESS, hires people, pays top dollar for help, has the best benefits, etc...

Has the best benefits?

So you'd think that a top business like Wal-Mart would have marvelous benefits, yes?

Oh wait...capitalism doesn't work that way, does it.

Socialism doesn't work at all. But then we should just ignore that reality and try it again, right?

"Nanny state" is a misnomer. Capitalists -- and I suggest you check out your favorite Democrat's portfolio before attempting to put capitalism solely on conservatives -- favor whatever makes them more money and rely on any method that does.

It isn't about conservatives being dependent on government to enrich them. That's crap. They in fact spend money through lobbyists to get politicians -- and they don't care whether there's a "D" or an "R" behind their names -- to get votes for legislation that they hope in the end will benefit them financially.

But rest assured ... so long as I sell a product YOU need or want ... I'm going to make money, government or no.

This isn't even a "good" try.

Actually benifits for full time WalMart workers are right in line with other fortune 500 companies as are their wage rates. Their standard package for salaried employees is a 15% 401k match, they pay 75% of health insurance premium, two-week vacation the first two years then one day per year up to a max of four weeks. That's right in line with most other large, non-unionized employers and among the very best in retail industry. Otherwise they couldn't keep anyone employed.

What the hell the above post is supposed to be about, I don't know.

I guess it's a rant of some kind.

Another thing. Clearly Zoomie has yet to pick himself up a copy of an established list of published fallacies. Frankly, it's embrassing he thinks..."Your fundamental logic flaw, as in all liberals, is the absolutely fallacy that business has a social purpose.," is even a fallacy.

Out of curiosity. What fallacy, in your mind, violated the rules of debate?

Wal-mart only hires salaried employees?

Wal-mart only hires salaried employees?

While I agree that Wal-Mart doesn't just higher Salaried employees, there aren't many business that provide great benefits for part-time employees, and some that don't provide any at all. So you can't really go by part-time benefits when comparing businesses. Every business has different, smaller, benefits for part-timers. I think what Zoomie is saying is that if you go by salaried employees, they're in line with the other large companies. Now as far as hiring illegal immigrants, that's a different story. :)

But don't you know, Wal Mart makes lots of money, and the socialists think they shouldn't be. They should be hiring fewer people, housing them in Wal Mart tenements and providing them with a free clinic, run by doctors with addiction issues.

Take note, none of the ideologues have in any sense addressed the article. As always they ignore reality or go someplace else in their minds where they find comfort. One only has to look at recent news to know the truth of the premise, CEOs whose businesses have been failure rob and pillage millions in salaries and the Fed bails out business not the working person.

You have to tell me where the land you live in is located? Or maybe not. Everything that exists in business has a social purpose even if it is only braggadocio. You are forgetting the buyer actually you are missing reality.

I personally have never been in a Walmart I simply won't shop in a place that treats it workers so poorly. Publicity has helped tone down their social darwinist ethic. Communist China loves walmart I'm sure, as it is making them a world power as we buy cheap junk in America made there.

Then you don't know what you're talking about when you talk about Walmart and how horrible it is. How many people do you know who actually work there?
