The compassionate GOP

Republicans think American helping American is (gasp) "socialism". A short walk to "communism".

And here we see rdean's supreme ignorance integrated with his bias.

See, the truth is, Republican's know that American's being forced against their will to "help" others is (gasp!) actual "communism".

Republican's also know that while you talk about "help", what you actually mean is gaining control of the masses through the government (because you're all equal parts scared and power hungry). We know this because the idiot liberal dumbocrat can "help" people any time they want but choose not to. Instead, they piss on those in need and funnel money to government, which funnels it back to them through pork and waste.

And yet it's (GASP) Republicans who need the most help.

Disability Treaty Downed By Republican Opposition

WASHINGTON -- Led by Republican opposition, the Senate on Tuesday rejected a United Nations treaty on the rights of the disabled that is modeled after the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act.

With 38 Republicans casting "no" votes, the 61-38 vote fell five short of the two-thirds majority needed to ratify a treaty. The vote took place in an unusually solemn atmosphere, with senators sitting at their desks rather than milling around the podium. Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, looking frail and in a wheelchair, was in the chamber to support the treaty.

The treaty, already signed by 155 nations and ratified by 126 countries, including Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia, states that nations should strive to assure that the disabled enjoy the same rights and fundamental freedoms as their fellow citizens. Republicans objected to taking up a treaty during the lame-duck session of the Congress and warned that the treaty could pose a threat to U.S. national sovereignty.

Well, we certainly understand where the heart of the GOP is.

Doesn't the UN have another country for Obama to go attack for them like Libya?

If he does, I predict another Nobel Peace Prize might be in the works.

Democrats aren't content with telling Americans what to do. They want to tell the whole world what to do.

Huffo Puffo Fluffo

We already have disability laws within our sovereign nation.. why give any power over our sovereign nation to the UN?? There is nothing to be gained except a way to bow to the UN

sure go with the crazy answer.

Old Rocks is just fine with the idea of having guys with light blue helmets toting machine guns checking our ID cards whenever we venture out in public. Ahh... The Liberal utopian dream.

that wouldnt be happening.....So no.

You think the compassionate thing for disabled people is to have them registered with the government?

The nazis did that type of thing. it didn't end well for the disabled people.

how does one get a handicap license?

Oh you have to go to a government agency in order to get one and basically register?

I guess according to AV the DMV are nazis.

and you claim i am ignorant beckite?

Screw the Un and get them the hell out of our country

but here's for Hufferpost:eusa_boohoo:

I hope you have a child who has a disability and want to travel, your the fucking scum that ruins Americas good name, ur side is the uneducated side that will loose every time in the long run.

Oh and I didn't elect the UN to oversee US laws. Why do we need the treaty when we already have some of the best laws for disabled people as it is? And why on earth would we outsource oversight to an unelected bueaurcrat if we did?

they wouldnt be over seeing our laws, but yeah this is what you get when you are stupid and crazy. Crazy thoughts.

So, what were the Republican objections? Why do they have a problem with this? Anyone?

Countless reasons:

1) We already have laws protecting the rights of the disabled
2) We don't need to outsource our sovereignty to the UN. We certainly dont need the UN, which is completely unaccountable to the voters, enforcing any laws.
3) We definitely done need the government/governments collecting names of the disabled from birth. That's how the exterminations in Germany began. Let's avoid that slippery slope.
4) We don't need to turn our "parents know best" policies to "government knows best" policies.

There are other problems as well.

1) true
2) wasnt going to happen
3) Godwin
4) went full retard

Old Rocks is just fine with the idea of having guys with light blue helmets toting machine guns checking our ID cards whenever we venture out in public. Ahh... The Liberal utopian dream.

Wow, you're a fucking idiot. It's a non-binding treaty.

Yep, if its a UN "treaty" it must be good for the United States.............

European socialists and third world dictators know whats best for us....

Yes republicans are all for right to life as long as long do not have to support that life. Why bother with the handy capped that are a big percentage of our military vets when you can throw them under the bus fro free.

Are you bothering to read anything anyone says? We already have one of the most comprehensive support systems for the disabled. Why do you think that being handicap makes one unable to do anything? Why do you think they should be registered with the government? What purpose does that have? Why should we have the UN regulating and enforcing laws when we can't hold them accountable?

And we support life throughout life. Stop lying to yourself to justify killing babies.

they won't be enforcing our laws. Its non-binding, with no way of enforcing.

Seriously you are a fucking moron.

Yep, gonna have to go with this one.

You could not be more wrong on this.

How did rws get to be so cruel and stupid? Why would they think this has something to do with sovereignty or giving away power?

Watched Robert and Elizabeth Dole as well as several veterans in wheelchairs, on the floor of congress, begging for them to vote in favor but, if there's one thing the GObP/pubpots hate and despise its anyone in a wheelchair.

Of all the shit you rw's pour out here every day, the one thing I cannot understand or forgive is your ongoing hatred for our vets. Especially those who came home in wheelchairs.

Because we tend to actually read what is in laws rather than just passing it because of bill/treaty's name.

and yet you couldnt have bothered to read here.

Instead you invoke the Nazis like a retard. No wait i don't want to insult actual retards.

Lakota, these right wing people are too stupid to understand what your trying to say, on a side note I am watching Sean hannity, I think he is gay, and say I am being serious.

Plasma he is invoking a right wing reference, the nazis, which is stupid, it's like punching yourself in the face in a fist fight.

Oh yes, the compassionate GOP...

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Joe Biden is quietly working with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to try to pass an inclusive version of the Violence Against Women Act in the lame-duck Congress. And so far, sources tell HuffPost, Cantor is on board as long as one thing is stripped from the bill: a key protection for Native American women.

More: Violence Against Women Act: Eric Cantor, Joe Biden In Talks Amid Stalled Tribal Provision

Leahy explained the provision, probably the least understood of the three additions in the Senate bill: It gives tribal courts limited jurisdiction to oversee domestic violence offenses committed against Native American women by non-Native American men on tribal lands. Currently, federal and state law enforcement have jurisdiction over domestic violence on tribal lands, but in many cases, they are hours away and lack the resources to respond to those cases. Tribal courts, meanwhile, are on site and familiar with tribal laws, but lack the jurisdiction to address domestic violence on tribal lands when it is carried out by a non-Native American individual.

That means non-Native American men who abuse Native American women on tribal lands are essentially "immune from the law, and they know it," Leahy said.

The standoff over including VAWA protections for Native American women comes at a time of appallingly high levels of violence on tribal lands. One in three Native American women have been raped or experienced attempted rape, the New York Times reported in March, and the rate of sexual assault on Native American women is more than twice the national average. President Barack Obama has called violence on tribal lands "an affront to our shared humanity."

Of the Native American women who are raped, 86 percent of them are raped by non-Native men, according to an Amnesty International report. That statistic is precisely what the Senate's tribal provision targets.

Imagine, the very idea of prosecuting a white man for merely beating up on a squaw! GOP unite against this infringement on liberty!
