The BP Disaster Was Obama's 3 A.M. Emergency Call. He Hung Up And Went Back To Sleep

Why did BP lie for over a month concerning the size of the oil leak? And there are a huge number of ships on that leak right now. However, a million to two million gallons of oil a day, much of it subsurface until it nears land, is not that easy to take care of.

What the President sent were people to try to judge the severity of the situation, and decide the best way to handle it. The US Government does not have any means of capping an oil well 5000 feet below the surface. And, as it turns out, contrary to prior statements, neither does the oil industry. The last major leak took 10 months to fix, and it was in only 150 feet of water.

And the hurricane season is upon us, looks to be one like 2005. Murphys.
How could BP lie to obama about the size of the leak? Afterall obama said he had everything under control, we were supposed to have boots on the ground and the Coast Gaurd on the water, according to obama.
EDIT:
When was the last offshore platform spill?

The last one was 31 years ago in 1979 off south Texas coast.

I feel sorry for you.

You should feel sorry for the people of the Gulf that are being affected by the Current Administrations ineffectiveness, BO did not show up in the Gulf Area for 13 Days after the incident -- 13 Days after the incident, I would say BO slept during several Phone Calls.

You're so right.

The POTUS should have been in one of those Coast Guard boats skimming oil with a dishrag.

That would have made ALL the difference.

Now Teabagger Ted, seems to me that the message was a wake-up call for all of us. How much are we willing to give of our nations natural beauty and bounty to feed our oil addiction. Time to cease all offshore drilling.

So what will fuel the country and how much are you willing to pay for petroleum to fuel your vehicle? Also if you shut down drilling in Louisiana and off its coast prepare for massive price hikes in goods and services. I am in the business and I know. We need massive drilling permits here in the states and the federal government needs to open up ANWAR and the lands in the lower 48 to domestic drilling. It would be worth it. Believe me.

You are in the business of kissing Sarah Palin's ass.

We now know we cannot fix a deepwater blowout with anything other than a months long process of drilling a relief well. To continue to allow such drilling when we know there is no satisfactory way of dealing with such a blowout is simply insane.

I've yet to hear one person give a good rebuttal as to why that isn't insane.

It doesn't matter what day he 'showed up'.

He could've showed up Day 1. We'd still be here on Day 73 with an uncapped well gushing oil into the Gulf.

How would that help?? Would it end our dependence on foreign oil or will we still rely on other countries for the bulk of our requirements?? How will more drilling at the expence of other natural resources (see the gulf for an example) benefit us enough to make it worth the cost??

Sorry but you offer so little substance that I find it hard to believe anything that you have to say.

And the economic crash is just an ant

Under Obama's Boot at our throat...

Did you happen to miss the FACT that the crash began under W's watch??
Yes caused by the democratic congress in charge 2 years before he left. That is almost 4 years of democratic control now with Obama in office and the result is total economic destruction with no end in sight until we get someone with common sense in office like Sarah Palin who knows how to manage and govern a executive office with prosperous results.

This is the truly sad thing about rightwing lemmings. They claim that the left sees obama as the messiah and yet the rightwing lemmings who parrot this talking point are the ones that expect obama to perform miracles.

The other sad thing is that these same hypocrites are the ones that defended W as he sat in a chair reading a childrens book while this nation was under attack and couldn't muster a decent response to the failure of the levee's in NO when lives were being lost daily and yet they expect obama to be able to stop a leak that our technology may not even have an answer to solving at this point.

Ted, you're so naive and clueless that it's almost endearing.

No one suggested they stop drilling in Louisiana, just offshore. It amounts to a tiny fraction of the oil used in the US and it all goes for international use anyway. Read something.

In 2009, the Obama administration intervened to support the reversal of a court order that would have halted offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Obama’s Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who has long had close ties to the industry, specifically cited BP’s Deepwater Horizon operation as one that should be allowed to go forward, according to a group involved in the court case.

A Washington DC Appeals Court ruled in April 2009 that the five-year plan for offshore oil and gas drilling (covering 2007 to 2012) was not based on a proper review of the environmental impact of the drilling. Only days before the ruling, the Obama administration had granted BP a “categorical exclusion,” exempting it from an environmental impact study for the Deepwater Horizon project.

The American Petroleum Institute, the oil industry trade group, intervened to reverse the court order, and was backed by the administration.

Kierán Suckling, executive director and founder the Center for Biological Diversity, which was involved in the original lawsuit, told the World Socialist Web Site that Salazar “filed a special motion asking the court to lift the injunction, and he cited the BP drilling several times by name in the request.”

In July 2009, the court ruled that drilling in both the Gulf and off the coast of Alaska could continue, on the condition that the administration conduct a study of the potential environmental risks. This study has yet to be completed.

Salazar praised the decision at the time, saying it allowed the administration to go forward with “a comprehensive energy plan,” including the BP project and a sale of leases for drilling in the Gulf.

Even since the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon less than three weeks ago, the Interior Department’s Minerals Management Services (MMS) has continued to grant “categorical exclusions” to oil and gas companies, allowing them to bypass environmental studies.

The administration has publicly announced that no new offshore drilling grants will be issued until a review, to be completed by the end of the month. Nevertheless, at least 27 exemptions have been granted, including one for a BP exploration plan for drilling at more than 4,000 feet. Another exemption was granted to Anadarko Petroleum Corporation for an exploration plan at more than 9,000 feet. The Deepwater Horizon was drilling at about 5,000 feet.

“The same problems we saw under the Bush administration are continuing under Obama,” Suckling said. “The change in political parties has done very little in terms of corporate domination of the political system. Who got to vote on turning over our natural resources to private corporations? The whole system is corrupt from the bottom up.”

The Obama administration’s announcement earlier this year that he would expand offshore oil drilling was a clear sop for the oil industry, as was his earlier decision to appoint Salazar as Interior Secretary. Suckling noted that as a Senator for Colorado Salazar supported the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006, which expanded drilling. Salazar received money from BP, and when he became Interior Secretary he brought several BP officials on his staff.

So it's all the dems fault eh?? LOL How typical. When a dem is president everything his fault even stuff that happened under a previous president and when a republican is president it's always someone else fault LOL

BTW your spin doesn't change the FACT that T tried to hold obama accountable for something that began on W's watch but thanks for the spin.

Especially considering the whole house of cards started to crumble in 2006 after 6 disastrous years of shrub's policies, the inva$ion of Iraq and turning the other way while Wall Street had orgies with our 401K's and begged and cried for new mortgages to bundle. They forget that 86% of the toxic mortgages were issued and owned by PRIVATE lenders - not to mention that in the summer of 2007, the first ARM's started to reset to higher rates and THIS is when defaults started in earnest... on loans that were at the time 1-5 years old.... Sooo.... they're still saying the fit hit the shan the INSTANT the dems had a somewhat larger majority in congress... even then, everything they tried to pass got vetoed by shrub - still their fault. I love righty revisionist history. I guess this is what all of our kids will be learning now, thanks to Texas. Sigh...
