Eight days ago, a Sunday, the temperature was 65, and it rained 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. By Wednesday, the temperatures were running 85 to 95, which they still are. The rain, and ensueing heat were perfectly timed for finishing the blackberries off. I have never seen them bigger, and are they ever good. Already picked enough for one pie. When I am retired, I plan to pick enough of these to have at least 20 quarts put up every year. Nothing like a blackberry pie or cobbler after a meal of venison stew to warm up a cold winters day.

I'll go for the venison stew. Don't care so much for the blackberries. My wife does and they are getting ripe here on the farm. So, I'll be out picking them for the little lady the next several days. It's the least I can do for a lady that washes my dirty socks.
