I am putting this in the CDZ because I would like to have a rational discussion about the Tea Party and its belief system (for a lack of better terms). I will be the first to admit, I have never given the Tea Party a chance. I have my impressions of Tea Party members and their policies...I don't want to get into why I dislike the Tea Party because I do not want to pervert the responses.

To the Tea Party...please explain to me your beliefs and how you differ from the GOP. Explain it like you are talking to a 12 year old.

Not trying to flame, but on what FACTS do you base your impression? The "Tea Party" represents fiscally responsible Republicans and Independents who understand that, once the US Dollar ceases being the world's reserve currency and safe haven, interest on the national debt will bankrupt us. Just do the math.

If that were indeed the case, I would be joining. My impression, based upon the candidates put forth and the people I have talked to, is that the Tea Partys tend to be people who think taxes should be low (unless it is for benefits coming to them) and that everyone should be free to do what they think people should do. So they generally oppose same sex marriage, access to abortion, legalizing drugs, etc. Show me a Tea Party that is for fiscal responsibility and doesn't want the government telling me how to live, they can sign me up.

Financial Conservatives do tend to be socially Conservative as well, so in any group of passionate fiscal Conservatives, you will have a lot of people who are against perversion and murder. The TEA Party is only about fiscal issues though.
As far as drugs? Have at them. The older I get the more I tend to think all drugs should be legal and serious addicts should receive free and unlimited supplies.
This will cut down on crime, prison crowding and, hopefully, the number of addicts.

Nope. I simply pay attention.

Just as a follow up to this. In the Commonwealth of Virginia, where I live, there are six members of the state legislature who are directly supported by the Tea Party. Others try to garner the vote, but these are the only ones with clear connections. Between the six, the total number of legislation put forth by them dealing with fiscal conservatism in 2014 was..... zero. The total number of bills put forth by them dealing with sex was.... 16. In one case, they wanted to change the law so you went on the sexual predator list if you were busted for solicitation of prostitution.

Don't listen to what they say, pay attention to what they do.

I purposely don't want to share my impressions so I don't pervert the discussion...that puts my bias aside while being able to see if others have the same impressions as I.

I live in VA as well...and I see the same thing. I think of the Tea Party as reactionaries who play political games to get votes...while doing nothing to improve the situation.

But haven't you just described every politician out there, regardless of party?

The TEA Party is supposed to be about fiscal responsibility. (Taxed Enough Already) I would definitely like to see some fiscal responsibility in our government.

There are any number of "conservative" state governments in this country. Can you point to a single one which has actually reduced the size of the government and state budget?

Yes. So how is the Tea Party different then?

The Tea Party isn't a political party. They carry around copies of the Bill of Rights and say the Pledge to the Flag. They even clean up the area after rallies. The Tea Party is a political pressure group. Since the democrat party is hopeless, they work within the republican party to get the candidates they think best represent their conservative views. They ain't the enemy and they don't hold a candle to the OWS maniacs as far as the ability to call attention to themselves. They work within the system and usually they are out maneuvered by incumbents. It's everybody's dream these days to shake up the political system and the Tea Party has done it. You should love them for it.

I would not say they are out maneuvered. Many of the candidates they support are so outside of the the mainstream they are essentially unelectable. What they are is naive. They say they stand for fiscal responsibility but when their guy gets elected fiscal responsibility simply falls by the wayside. Instead, we get the same fiscal irresponsibility with a direct assault upon personal liberties. Oh, they talk about liberty - but they mean liberty for them, not for others.

I do not agree with most of your post.

I would say most D and R candidates are outside the mainstream. They are socialists. Yes some TP candidates advocate limited government, lower taxation, rule of law, free market capitalism...all things consider mainstream not long ago, but now due to the dread disease known as statism or progressivism, these views are outside the mainstream. CRAZY!!!

And few TP members are in congress, so how is it that they have abandoned fiscal responsibility? You think a handful of congressmen and a few senators are capable of stopping the progressive/statist juggernaut?

Can you prove they MEAN liberty only for them? I suspect you have been brainwashed by the left wing media, with that foolish statement.

First, I must conclude you have no idea what socialism is. You might want to get educated on that.

I really don't care what you suspect. I watch the legistlation being submitted and draw my conclusions from that. If you prefer not to, that is your choice.

Take the three highest profile tea party members in the senate. Ted Cruz who at least stands up for what he believes in. Marco Rubio who has tried to work out legislative solutions to immigration and stand up for America. Mike Lee(I think I have the name right) the senator from Utah who is one of the most measured and intellectually astute members of the senate. Harry Reid wouldn't make a pimple on anyone's of these asses. I don't know anything about state legislators that want to pass sex laws but if you are going to judge tea party people on what they try to do you should be celebrating these men as shining examples of what is needed in politics.

Oh yeah, bulletin: the guy who beat cantor received no tea party money for his campaign.
