Study: One-Third Of Manufacturing Workers Use Welfare Assistance

The study, conducted by the University of California, Berkeley, found that about one-third of manufacturing workers seek government assistance in the form of food stamps, healthcare subsidies, tax credits for the poor or other forms of welfare to offset low wages.

This amounts to about 2 million workers, and between 2009 and 2013, the cost for assisting these workers added up to $10.2 billion per year.

“The reality is the production jobs are increasingly coming to resemble fast-food or Walmart jobs,” Jacobs said.

By comparison, the number of fast-food workers who rely on public assistance is about 52 percent.

"I absolutely hate being on public assistance," she said. "You constantly have people judging you."

Interesting note under the article by someone named "deanrd". Gee, I wonder who that could be?

Lets get this straight dumb ass obama care kicks people off their company health insurance and now they turn around and say they are getting government assistance?

Did he? Prove it.

Technology is what can be worse,.
tech is very very good. its how we got from stone age to here. losing 50 million jobs thanks to liberal programs is as bad as it gets.
But is is technology that gives birth to liberal ideas. I think the biggest achievement of technology is how to enslave your neighbor. Most recently, buy eliminating his job and making him vote for whoever gives him the ne t welfare cheque.
Ahhh, a vote for a return to the stone age.

Ungowa.

There may be a case for this, actually. For example, the medieval serfs, okay not all the way back, had most of their works in the summer, and almost nothing in the winter, like a half year vacation every year. But even if only a quarter year vCation, who gets this good work life balance in the 21st century? Then, the serf tax was a 10 % to the church, and another 10 % percent to the landlord. Most nations put everyone in a tax bracket higher than 20 %. And then, how many days do you think medieval city folks worked per week? Wel, not 6 but 5 only, like today, because after Sunday, they usually had Monday off too. Another few fact that the technology based liberals don't want you to know.

But is is technology that gives birth to liberal ideas.

why liberal and not conservative??
Because it is the liberal ideology that builds on centralization. Conservative ideology builds on chaos theory instead. For the basic human nature, chaos is better, because there everyone gets a chance. In a centralized system, chances are pre determined and dispensed, like an ant farm. No chances to the individual. Too bad, you can transition only one way, to the direction of centralized liberalism, never the reverse. And by the way, the more complex technology gets, the more centralization iT causes.

AND WHO'S FAULT IS THAT, Rdeanie?

YOUR GOVERNMENTS with Bill Clinton leading the way by giving us NAFTA

and Obama omg he's sold us out to everyone with these trade agreements, the GLobull warming BS, Iran our enemy, Cuba, giving free reign for Illegal immigrants and all these refugees they keep loading us up with........ and on and on

Obama
ISIS
Iran
Venezuela
Cuba
...

:lmao:

She still aint aware those big corp she wants to give more tax breaks, in fact aint paying anybody anything anyways .... :D

THAT IS WHAT REPUBLICANS AND CONSERVATIVES PUSH AS THEIR ECONOMIC PLAN. CUT TAXES.
I THINK WE SHOULD ALL GIVE UP AND FOLLOW THE POLICY SUGGESTED BY Reagan's Budget Director, David Stockman. In a New York Times article, Stockman said:

'When Fed chief Paul Volcker "crushed inflation" in the '80s we got a "solid economic rebound." But then "the new tax-cutters not only claimed victory for their supply-side strategy but hooked Republicans for good on the delusion that the economy will outgrow the deficit if plied with enough tax cuts." By 2009, they "reduced federal revenues to 15% of gross domestic product," lowest since the 1940s. Still today they're irrationally demanding an extension of those "unaffordable Bush tax cuts [that] would amount to a bankruptcy filing."
Recently Bush made matters far worse by "rarely vetoing a budget bill and engaging in two unfinanced foreign military adventures." Bush also gave in "on domestic spending cuts, signing into law $420 billion in nondefense appropriations, a 65% percent gain from the $260 billion he had inherited eight years earlier.""
Economic Affairs; DAVID STOCKMAN'S STORY

Republicans believe that spending is the only thing that increases the national debt. They have a mental block that does not allow them to see tax cuts as an equally effective method of increasing the national debt. Nor do they see that the biggest contributors to the national debt are Republicans. Which is basically what Stockman is saying.
we have been using leftist ideals since before this report started

So no, you don't get to blame RR, unless it's just to keep your head in the sand

Conservatives use fractal geometry to solve a problem. Liberals use the shotgun theory to solve a problem.

A CNBC report on the study detailed the struggles of a single mom working as an assembler at a Detroit Chassis plant in Ohio for $9.50 an hour. She often doesn’t get full 40-hour work weeks and said she has to rely on food stamps, Medicaid and other government programs.

"I absolutely hate being on public assistance," she said. "You constantly have people judging you."

If some woman has lots of babies with no support, big government becomes daddy. Damn right people judge her. Why should I have to pay for someone to raise thugs?

It's ridiculous to let these Syrian refugees into the USA. Where are they going to go? A huge number of them will go to the Detroit area. The city with the worst unemployment problem in the USA. What a great idea!

Don't worry Rderp.................With all the Free Trade Agreements and the new TPP.........these jobs will go offshore anyway........Like the 6 million plus already lost............since NAFTA..............

So they will go from having a job to FULL METAL PUBLIC ASSISTANCE........as more of our jobs go away.

But HEY............IT'S COOL............LOOK AT THE UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS...............Isn't it GREAT..........Obama is just plain cool............huh.........

psst..........just ignore all those not counted anymore.
just ignore all of those jobs lost and lower wages due to illegal immigrants working for taco's.....
shhhhh..........don't want the people to hear the real deal. so keep it quiet shhhhhhh.

Bill Clinton:
“The problem is, 80% of the American people are still living on what they were living on the day before the [2008 finnan*cial] crash. And about half the American people, after you adjust for inflation, are living on what they were living on the last day I was president 15 years ago. So that’s what’s the matter.”

actually you contradicted yourself above. Why not try again?
Cut and paste error or spelling check? I meant no chance for the individual in a centralized system. ... Because a centralized system is a liberal hierarchy.

in any case you failed to say why you think "it is technology that gives birth to liberal ideas".

I think it is technology that gives birth to liberal ideas, because it is technology that shifts work off your own survival effort to some 3rd party, such as a machine, or a party that claims ownership of it. This is possible, because technology is not a one to one shifting of labor from man to machine, but more like a thousand to one, and soon no man will have a place left to try his own survival. That is where the liberal wisecracking comes in and you get socialism. Disgraceful.

Well, yes and no. Jefferson was opposed to cities and factories and technology because of their tendency to make individuals a liberal collective, but then again the culture could just as easily say, in such a place, it's important to be an individual. Our Founders were for individual liberty not because they were from cities or countrysides but because they were good thinkers.

Yes. And they would certainly have not become good thinkers, had they grown up without economic assets, like pretty much everyone today. The Founding Fathers had their sharp minds defined by the availability of assets to them. Today, this would be impossible. For example, this is why everyone is a liberal idiot these days.

Is that what happened to you? Sorry, I could not help myself........Nah, I am not sorry.
