It starts talking about a Bill O'Reilly of FoxNews comment and, in effect, puts the record straight. Here's an excerpt:

Classically, liberalism stands for economic freedom, freedom of expression, civil rights of individuals, and limited government under the rule of law. In fact, in much of the world outside of the U.S., in Europe and Australia and even Canada, it still means that, and is considered “right wing.” But there is nothing “liberal” about the modern American left, or the Democrats’ leadership or base, and there hasn’t been for decades.

I am definitely going to change my definition of liberalism and make darned sure I don't get it mixed up with the Left's socialism and “progressive” outlook.

Tea Partiers are classical liberals.

In their time, classical liberals were not conservatives by any means. The ruling classes were conservatives back then. The idea that the average citizen could have the liberty to work and thrive economically outside of the direction of kings, queens, and heads of state, was radical.

Liberalism in the US, still embraces the fight against conservatives, and promotes spending on social programs.

It is a monumental waste of time trying to reconcile political definitions from the 18th and 19th centuries, and draw comparisons for advocacy sake.

I've made it simple, because trying to string together comparisons will just make the person attempting it sound neurotic.

Liberals embrace change
Conservatives embrace tradition

What we call "liberals" are progressive statists, nothing more or less.

I've been saying that for a long time. I'm a liberal Democrat, I am not however, a progressive. Progressives are evil.

I do not know a SINGLE leftie that falls under that description. Like many things as times change so do ideals & philosophies.

Today's liberalism & those that practice it are very much a stain on our nation.

My sig says it all

Well it's difficult, because idiot liberals allowed their title to be stolen by puke progressives.

So you want us to call you a liberal? Rand Paul is a liberal? Donald Trump is a liberal? Most Republicans are liberals?

lol, won't that get a bit confusing? Take a smart pill and think these things through before you post them from now on.

there is no such thing as "free shit". even shit isnt free.
you have to buy something to eat to create shit, then someone has to pay to treat it and dispose of it.

Old time liberals thought the capitalists were less dangerous than the government.

They were wrong. Modern liberalism arose from those who figured out the old timey 'liberalism' was wrong.

Indeed. I am liberal in the classical definition, but to say so thoroughly confuses the uninformed.

Okay, let me set things straight.

While the article seemed to make sense, I have to consider the source. I have yet to decide just what side of the political spectrum American Thinker is on.

I personally believe ALL political labels are dumb and demeaning. They have been grabbed onto by professional politicians and academics and have little correlation to the real world.

I don't think the vast majority of Americans of voting age and/or eligibility fully identify with ANY of the parties. They register with those that almost come closer to what they believe.

The Founders (can't remember which) warned about political parties and they were wise beyond their years.

Modern-day Democrats and their supporters nee "liberals" have devolved into the new Communist cheerleaders. They're not even based in the founding philosophy anymore.
