The Daily Show finds the ObamaCare of the trigger-happy - The Week

Instead of looking at the people shot and killed with relative impunity, most famously Trayvon Martin, Klepper looked at the shooters. Even more narrowly, he dove into a new type of insurance springing up that promises to legally defend shooters in stand-your-ground states.

Talk of insurance tends to make people's eyes glaze over, but Klepper makes it interesting, thanks largely to his interview with former Virginia attorney general (and unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate) Ken Cuccinelli (R). Cuccinelli helps run one of these insurance schemes, and as another of Klepper's guests points out, the fierce ObamaCare opponent is now facing the same big issue as ObamaCare itself: Risk pools. Improbably, Klepper even makes that dry topic amusing.

That's right.

For as little as $10 a month, the rabid nutter can now buy shooter insurance so that when said rabid nutter goes off and shoots someone for, say, playing loud music or texting, he's got insurance to pay for his legal fees. Gee, if rabid nutter George Zimmerman had had this insurance, his attorneys would not have been screwed out of his unpaid legal fees.

The video is incredible but be warned, its *NSFSRWP.

Don't say you weren't warned.

But, you'll be thrilled with the asssinine comparison to ObamaCare.

Bumping cuz this is an idea whose time has come.

I'm a member of Texas Law Shield.

Member is at home and witnesses a thief stealing Member’s property outside of his home. Member arms self and confronts thief. Thief attacks Member. Member in self-defense shoots thief turned attacker. Fortunately, he was no billed after lengthy investigation process. Member paid no attorneys’ fees.

Member discovers woman slashing his truck's tires with a knife. Member confronts criminal who jumps in waiting car. Driver of car attempts to run down Member who is forced to shoot at car in self-defense. Police respond, but incredibly arrest Member. Only after a legal system nightmare, was situation corrected and the criminal was actually charged. Member paid no attorneys' fees.

Member arrested for open carrying on own property, perfectly legal in Texas. Member was arrested by a police officer and accused of leaving his own property. Only after a lengthy legal process and gaining access to the police officer's own dash video that showed Member did nothing wrong, were the charges dismissed. Member paid no attorneys’ fees.

Member had an argument with a neighbor, after neighbor’s loose dog attacked Member and his dog. Member had to pull handgun on dog. Both Member and the other owner called the police; police arrived and wrote Member a ticket for a misdemeanor that did not exist. Ultimately, after much legal hassle, the case was dismissed. Member paid no attorneys’ fees.

How long before employers, school districts, churches start carrying shooter insurance to mitigate their damages when some nutter opens fire?

We already know of a couple of theaters who would sign up.

We could call it Popcorn Insurance.

Wouldn't this be covered under general liability?

Ask Cuccinelli ... He's lookin' to make a buck off the crazy paranoia for when they work up the courage to venture out from under the bed.

But you're against paying for your health care insurance.

Pardon the pun, but that is just priceless.

No I'm against paying for your healthcare insurance. I pay all my medical bills.

Anyone can sue, even if you went to court and won you can still be subjected to a lawsuit by the deceased scumbag's family. I like the shooter idea and will see if we can get it. I

how about criminal insurance. shouldn't convicted criminals be paying for the significant costs of their crimes?

Wouldn't that show intent to shoot people? The reason for any and all insurance is to mitigate against events that have not yet happened that one believes there is a chance of happening.

I wonder ... would that intent be used to make it first degree murder?

OTOH, the only reason to carry a gun is that one plans to use it. That in itself shows intent.

Fun times ahead for the nutters.

If you had healthcare insurance before ObamaCare you were paying for the health care of others. Same with auto insurance. That's how all insurance has always worked and will always work.

Plus, you pay for those who use EMTALA and don't pay their bills.

But, you already knew that, didn't you.
