Sect. Mattis Resignation Letter:

Big whoop....How many war secretaries did Boiking go through?

Gates, Panetta, Hagel and Carter. Do you have a point you'd like to make, or is your question purely petulant.

Not one of the four left under the same or similar events; most Pols, and I suspect most real American Citizens of sound mind, found his recent behavior reckless, unwarranted and dangerous to the Kurds, our Soldiers and our allies and We the People.

It is time for Pence to put together an ad hoc committee with The Congress to bring up a discussion as to The Presidents fitness and ability to function, as specified in Art 25, Sec. 4

WTF?! Who is the 'Commander in Chief' actually serving? Russia, Iran, Turkey and Assad are loving this. And the Pentagon is totally blind-sided.

LMAO.... It takes nerve to post a clip of anything that CNN pole smoker has to say

America first.......

Not surprised at all the machine is against it

Strange America first. Strengthen Russia, bolster Iran, reinvigorate ISIS, empower Turkey, demoralize our allies, sow chaos in the homeland. All in one day.

This is a strategy only a Russian troll could love.

Bolster Iran and arm ISIS through the Benghazi Consulate...

Who gives a flying fck about Benghazi except those who seek deflection from Trumpist incompetence.

Not at all. It is one we Americans love as POTUS is doing just what he said he would. He was elected to do everything he said he would. Looks good for 2020

Yeah, looks good for Russia, Turkey, Iran and ISIS in 2020..

When is the EU going to step up? Shouldn't be a problem for them to replace 2,000 US soldiers.

It is however a testament to the greatness of our armed forces when we only need 2,000 soldiers to hold in check Russia, Turkey, Iran and ISIS.

We are Sparta! The Persians better run.

Damning condemnation of Trumps foreign policy and capabilities as Commander in Chief

You dumbass confused Moon Bat. When the Jungle Monkey President was in office ISIS came within a nat's ass of completely taking over all of Iraq, or do you even remember that with your Libtard selective memory?

I have nothing but the greatest respect for the general/secretary.

He has the integrity to step down when he disagrees with the policies of the Commander-in-Chief.

But, he has a military mind and simply cannot see that President Trump is doing what he promised - cutting back our overseas presence.

And lying, as usual, about it.
ISIS is defeated, really? Are you sure it was the US Army you were in?

Obama's not President, HRC is not President, and Donald J. Trump is unfit to hold the power in which he has been invested in him. He is a danger to every living thing, and VP Pence will go down in history as the Person who fiddled as the world burned.
--------------------------------------------- 'mrobama' purged many experienced military and that is all . 'mattis' survived 'mrobama' so that right there says something about 'mattis' . Anyway , might be time to bring back REAL Generals and military that 'mrobama' purged WryCatcher .

Let me guess, you supported Hillary's "no fly zone" in Syria, which is code for war as we have seen in previous cases.

I realize you miss the warmongering around the world, so Dims need to get in there and start some more wars!

bring back some of the military that 'mrobama' purged during his 8 years . General Jerry Boykin comes to mind as a good guy and was purged by 'mrobama' . Leave 'petraus' and 'mcchrystal' where they are working for 'gabby giffords' on 'gun control against Americans and they are 'mrobamas' boys anyway RWinger .
The Great Obama actually listened to his Generals

This is where his idiocy becomes a matter for concern around the world.
When foreign policy is dictated by the need to feed opinion polls back home then the adults leave the room.

The US had 2,000 soldiers in Syria that are being pulled out. Germany has some 1,200 troops presently in Syria. The UK???

The EU has twice the population of the US but can't find 2,000 soldiers to replace the departing US soldiers?

WTF

.
Direct your questions to General Mattis.

Too funny. General Mattis decides EU troop deployment? You are a wanker.

Even funnier. The UK is sending 800 British troops to Norway to help defend them from Russian aggression.UK sending 800 troops to Arctic in warning shot to Russia

Hard to believe that the entire EU can't replace 2,000 US soldiers in Syria.

.

You seem to miss the entire point, bias clouds ... um ... Blinds you!

"One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies."

‘In that single paragraph, which sums up the sentiment of the longer letter, Mattis rejects out of hand Trump's "America First" foreign policy that had led to clashes with a slew of longtime allies -- from Germany to Britain to Australia and back. From Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord to his recent announcement that the United States would be leaving Syria -- a decision with which Mattis disagreed -- Trump has shown time and time again that he rejects the post-World War II alliance structure that presidents, Republican and Democratic, have relied upon for more than seven decades.’

Trump’s rejection of those long-maintained alliances is both reckless and irresponsible.

Rejecting putting your own country first is a pretty good reason to NOT be SecDef.

It's too late in the game to play your games Frank. It's time for all of us to come together and for you to admit Trump is a danger to the world!

Dear Mr. President:

I have been privileged to serve as our country's 26th Secretary of Defense which has allowed me to serve alongside our men and women of the Department in defense of our citizens and our ideals.

I am proud of the progress that has been made over the past two years on some of the key goals articulated in our National Defense Strategy: putting the Department on a more sound budgetary footing, improving readiness and lethality in our forces, and reforming the Department's business practices for greater performance. Our troops continue to provide the capabilities needed to prevail in conflict and sustain strong U.S. global influence.

NATIONAL SECURITY
Despite Remaining ISIS Threats, Pompeo Says U.S. Made 'Caliphate In Syria Go Away'

One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies. Like you, I have said from the beginning that the armed forces of the United States should not be the policeman of the world. Instead, we must use all tools of American power to provide for the common defense, including providing effective leadership to our alliances. NATO's 29 democracies demonstrated that strength in their commitment to fighting alongside us following the 9-11 attack on America. The Defeat-ISIS coalition of 74 nations is further proof.

MIDDLE EAST
White House Orders Pentagon To Pull U.S. Troops From Syria

Similarly, I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours. It is clear that China and Russia, for example, want to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model — gaining veto authority over other nations' economic, diplomatic, and security decisions — to promote their own interests at the expense of their neighbors, America and our allies. That is why we must use all the tools of American power to provide for the common defense.

My views on treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held and informed by over four decades of immersion in these issues. We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is most conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances.

ANALYSIS
After U.S. Troops Leave Syria, What Happens Next?

Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position. The end date for my tenure is February 28, 2019, a date that should allow sufficient time for a successor to be nominated and confirmed as well as to make sure the Department's interests are properly articulated and protected at upcoming events to include Congressional posture hearings and the NATO Defense Ministerial meeting in February. Further, that a full transition to a new Secretary of Defense occurs well in advance of the transition of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in September in order to ensure stability within the Department.

I pledge my full effort to a smooth transition that ensures the needs and interests of the 2.15 million Service Members and 732,079 DoD civilians receive undistracted attention of the Department at all times so that they can fulfill their critical, round-the-clock mission to protect the American people.

I very much appreciate this opportunity to serve the nation and our men and women in uniform.

James Mattis
