Yes. Have you ever heard of Seasonal Adjustment? No?Have any of you blind assed, empty-headed, low-forhead nose pickers on the left ever heard of seasonal hiring?
Which is why the official numbers are adjusted to account for normal seasonal hiring.Well every year at this time, businesses, especially stores, increase their staff for the holiday season. We have thanksgiving this month and after that is black friday, and shopping will increase all throughout the holiday season until after New Years. The those jobs will no longer be needed and many people will loose ther jobs.
Take a look at Table B-1 Employees on nonfarm payrolls which is the official jobs numbers.
On the left side of the table you see "Not Seasonally Adjusted" which has Sept 2012 at 133,881,000 nonfarm payroll jobs and Oct 2012 at 134,792,000. A change of +911,000
But, because there is a lot of seasonal hiring this time of year, the numbers were statistically adjusted so that the "Seasonal Adjusted" number for Sept was 133,584,000 and for October was 133,755,000 showing an official change of +171,000
Again...the actual change was 911,000 and that was adjusted down to 171,000 to account for seasonal hiring.
BLS has been seasonally adjusting for decades. Did you really think Economists and Statisticians hadn't thought about it?
