Retreat: Team obama drops 'public option'

key word.............appears......

i dont buy it. i think they threw that out there to get a bump in the popularity polls.....jmho

It says they are negotiating with republicans so they can "declare victory".

Any reform at this point would be considered a victory for Obama. GOD knows he needs at least one.

I guess the libs will be blaming the concession of the public option on the angry Nazi mobs of the commen sense party.

Surely the Democrats don't believe a word of what the public says they really want.... Must be the hint that they are about to screw up really really bad... Nancy Pelosi is whispering in Obama's ear, "Don't be a dumb ass, Barack. If I loose this job nobody else will hire me!"

Hear the administration's cry, heed it! They will tell you that they are speaking for the idiot masses! Amen.

I was more talking about the negotiating part. If you want to assume the reasons for it, that's up to you, but the whole "both sides negotiating" thing was a a major part of his platform. I mean, seriously - negotiating with the other side is partisanship...not negotiating with the other side is partisanship...that doesn't really work for me. Either way, I don't particularly care what the motivation is, as long as the job gets done.

The so called blue dogs know they are gone in 2010 if they vote for this Statist take over of health care. Other wise the Dem's have the votes.

We'll see. It would be truly tragic if the misinformation and absurdity thrown around over this bill won. It would be a victory for brainwashing and corporations, and nothing more, as far as I'm concerned.

We already have a public option; it simply isn't open to everyone. And yet, capitalism survives, we haven't descended into the deep dark pit of socialism, or any other stupid talking points meant to satiate the followers. I do find it funny, however, that Britain has been classified as "socialist" for the purposes of healthcare discussion. That's so stupid it's hilarious.

The national dialogue on this issue has been and remains the blathering of idiots drowning out the logical.

They may not be a socialist nation, but they have a socialist health care system.

If they want 'the best bill' negotiations are a good idea. Doesn't seem to be what's happening, nor necessary as they have the majorities in both houses. They are looking for cover and the opposition should withhold that.

No they don't. Medical insurance is not a means of production, and a government insurance program does not allow the government to plot the economy in a socialistic manner (you'll have to go to China for that one...). They have public healthcare, period. Socialism is a different thing. It's a talking point thrown out by special interest groups to rope in the partisans, no more valid than any other logo or talking point. It's marketing, and nothing more.

There's plenty of reasons to object to public health care. It would be nice if the real issues and weaknesses were the center of national debate on the subject, rather than stupidity like "death panels" and "socialism." Very frustrating.
