The time for reparations was immediately after the Civil War. The reparations could have consisted of giving farmland to the slaves taken from the slave owners who built their plantations on the backs of people they human trafficked into involuntary servitude. The Republicans who had freed the slaves should have done it at the time. But having sacrificed so much, the Republicans can be forgiven for wanting to go home and rebuild their lives.

A generation later, and it was too late. Opportunity missed, as the Democratic Party, with assist from the Ku Klux Klan, had regained much of its lost power.

There were lots of problems with this proposal. Do we give a half share to someone who is half black? What about those who had ancestors that came to America after 1865? Should we give reparations to blacks who are wealthy?

Reparations aren't just for slavery. But none of you want to ddiscuss the 100 yearss after slavery and the white oppression that happened then. rish are white, they did not get what blacks got. In fact white European ethnic grroups unified behind their skin collor and enforced Jim Crow.

The Republicans didn't sacrifice jack ----. The Republicans ended reconstruction.

As a result of emancipation, in January of 1865, Special Field Order 15 was issued. In July 1865, Circular 13 was issued by General Oliver Howard, fully authorizing the lease of 40-acre plots of land to the newly freed blacks.

As a result of these actions, 40,000 formerly enslaved people began work on land that now belonged to them. But President Andrew Johnson killed these two orders and removed those 40,000 blacks from that land while destroying any income they could make. He gave the land back to whites. Johnson pardoned most of the confederate leaders, allowing them to regain power.

Ok professor, if you support reparations, how much compensation should Barrack Obama receive? His African ancestors were not enslaved in the US and his white ancestors owned slaves in the US. So, does Obama owe black people reparations? If so how much?
