Remember When Democrats Blocked Trump from Filling the Strategic Oil Reserve While Gas Was Cheap?

In March, Joe Biden ordered the release of millions of barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve . . . It’s just too bad we didn’t load up the reserves when gas prices were much cheaper.

Oh, wait, Trump tried to do that. But Democrats stopped him.

“It was only two years earlier that Democrats blocked former President Trump from filling the reserve when oil was hovering around $24 per barrel,” reports Bloomberg. “Trump in March of 2020 was looking to stabilize the oil industry after Covid-19 hit in 2020 and crushed global petroleum demand. With oil at the time priced at about $24 a barrel, Republicans proposed spending $3 billion to fill up the reserve. But the idea became a political football in larger negotiations on trillions in coronavirus relief, with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer proclaiming that his party had blocked a ‘bailout for big oil.’”

This was an incredibly costly decision. According to Bloomberg, because of the Democrats’ grandstanding over “big oil” profits, the United States effectively lost billions in potential profits, not to mention that there was less supply

TheReaper says: The party that just can't shoot straight. Democrats do not have a clue when it comes to energy policy and they are hurting the lioves of millions of Americans with their green nonsense.

Your last sentence calls green power "nonsense". Who`s the asshole here?

You are the asshole, asshole. Junk green science is causing real pain because it is causing Senile Biden to implement horrible energy policies that are making poorer people suffer due to higher gas and food prices. Now fuck off you piece of shit.

The Biden administration is considering replenishing the Strategic Petroleum Reserve when oil dips below $80 a barrel, just two years after Democrats blocked former President Donald Trump from filling the reserve at a fraction of that price.

Biden in March ordered the release of a record 180 million barrels of oil from the reserve in an attempt to stem supply shortages and the rapid rise of gasoline prices in the US following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The administration now is looking to protect US oil-production growth and prevent crude prices from plummeting, according to people familiar with the matter.

Trump in March of 2020 was looking to stabilize the oil industry after Covid-19 hit in 2020 and crushed global petroleum demand. With oil at the time priced at about $24 a barrel, Republicans proposed spending $3 billion to fill up the reserve. But the idea became a political football in larger negotiations on trillions in coronavirus relief, with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer proclaiming that his party had blocked a “bailout for big oil.”

That decision effectively cost the US billions in potential profits and meant Biden had tens of millions of fewer barrels at his disposal with which to counter price surges.

It also will take more oil to fill the reserve than two years ago. In March 2020, the reserve had 634 million barrels stored out of a capacity of 727 million barrels. After a record drawdown last week, the reserve is down to 442 million barrels, its lowest level since 1984.

Benchmark US oil futures jumped by almost $3 a barrel after Bloomberg reported the White House plan to restock emergency reserves. The contract settled close to a one-week high at $87.31 on Tuesday, extending the year-to-date advance to 16%.

I find it hard to believe that Biden wasn’t stopped in his efforts to reduce gasoline prices by using up our Strategic Oil Reserve.

If we really need it and it is no longer there how much will the price of gasoline rise at that point?

That may well happen as Joe Biden has the reverse Midas touch. Everything he does turns to shit. Plus our corrupt Presdient is selling our strategic oil to the Chinese. Perhaps the Chinese own Joe.

It is not enough that China is buying Russian oil at a discount due to western sanctions put on Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine, but now President Biden’s Department of Energy is selling China oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)—a source that is meant for national emergencies that Biden has been depleting since last November in hopes to lower gasoline prices that have been escalating due to his energy policies.

The SPR was established by the 1975 Energy Policy and Conservation Act to help the U.S. mitigate the impacts of future “severe energy supply interruptions.” But, Biden has sold more than five million barrels of oil from the SPR to European and Asian nations instead of U.S. refiners, compromising U.S. energy security. Biden’s Energy Department in April announced the sale of 950,000 barrels from SPR to Unipec, the trading arm of the China Petrochemical Corporation, which is wholly owned by the Chinese government. China purchased that oil from U.S. emergency reserves to bolster its own stockpile. China has been buying large amounts of oil for its reserves since the early COVID lockdowns when prices were low due to demand destruction.

Biden ordered the Department of Energy to release a total of about 260 million barrels of oil stored in the SPR over the last eight months. The SPR’s level has fallen to about 492 million barrels of oil, the lowest level since December 1985, according to the Energy Information Administration. The current level is 20 percent lower than its level recorded days prior to Biden’s first release in late November.

That is in contrast to President Trump, who in March of 2020, ordered the Department of Energy (DOE) to fill the SPR to its maximum capacity by purchasing 77 million barrels of American-made oil beginning with an initial purchase of 30 million barrels.

The associations between members of the Joe Biden administration and Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-linked individuals and entities are incredibly disturbing.

Personnel is policy. By dint of such ties, and past dutiful service to administrations that pursued the very policies of engagement and accommodation that enabled Communist China's rise, we can surmise that the president, and the architects of his agenda, will likely be uniquely soft on China.

***snip***

This is to say nothing of the links between the family members of such officials and the CCP and/or its affiliates and friends. On this point, President Biden himself, at the absolute minimum, faces the appearance of a major conflict of interest in the way of his closest relatives' financial dealings with CCP-linked individuals and entities—to say nothing of his own alleged stake.

The foregoing demonstrates that the CCP touches major centers of power and influence in America: The corporate world, the academy and the related worlds of public policy and "thought leadership." These are all feeders to government.

We have helped create our most formidable adversary. In the process, our Ruling Class has been corrupted by it. Absent a new elite, it is unclear how this ends well for the ruled.

In March 2020, Trump did propose purchasing 77 million barrels of oil in order to fill the SPR to its maximum capacity, according to the DOE. But Congressional Democrats blocked the measure, calling it an “estimated $3 billion bailout for big oil.”
You are lying, and Politifact is fake news garbage.

Jeez, why did the retard have to be the first responder to my thread.
He was lying.

Trump’s claim about U.S. oil reserves being “virtually empty” for 50 years is also false. In December 2009, the SPR was nearly filled to its then-authorized capacity of 727 million barrels, according to the DOE. That’s the highest inventory ever held in the SPR.

You leave out the part where the ONLY reason Trump wanted to do this was because it was no longer practical for the oil companies to frack oil when the price bottomed out after he let Covid in and wrecked the economy.

Funny you guys have some odd amnesia about what a flaming plate of shit the country was in 2020 on Trump's watch.

Compared the $4T spent in to years and the additional $700B for "inflation reduction' and $500B for "student loan forgiveness", $3B is almost doesn't hit the radar.

For how long will borrowing money at such rates be considered "bad policy that threatens National Security"?

Trump spent us $8 trillion in debt. I've often noted, anything you refuse to condemn your guy for will only get worse with the next.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed the 21st Century Cures Act by a vote of 344-77. To help pay for the measure, the House proposed to raise $5 billion by selling 70 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the course of 8 years. If the legislation in its current form passes the Senate and becomes law, it will drain the SPR by more than 10 percent in order to pay for medical research programs.

Congress said it was used as a giant piggy bank.

"So after 50 years of being virtually empty, I built up our oil reserves during my administration, and low energy prices, to 100% full," Trump said.

Was he lying or are you lying?

Who cares about that? No one.

Now, answer for your party once again making life suck for Americans. Do you have an apology for us or should we just expect you to lie about it, make excuses for it, deflect from it or cover it up?
