That was all the talk in Republican propaganda circles a year or so ago.

It looked like this:

"On the other hand, the Republicans are sitting on the deepest bench they've had in decades. Bill Kristol, the editor of the Weekly Standard, counts some 26 potential candidates: "John Bolton, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, John Kasich, Pete King, Mike Pence, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Rick Santorum, Joe Scarborough, Scott Walker, and Allen West ... Dick Cheney, Tom Cotton, Mitch Daniels, Joni Ernst, Newt Gingrich, and Rudy Giuliani."

"Each of you would be a better president than Hillary Clinton. You would deserve the thanks of man and woman if you beat her. And if your name is not on this list, don't feel slighted. Rather, feel free to volunteer you're also more ready than Hillary. If you think you're the right person go for it."

He missed a few others: Nikki Haley, Brian Sandoval, Susana Martinez. And of course Rand Paul. That pushes the number to 30. Not all are top-tier, ready-to-govern candidates, but all are, as Mr. Kristol points out, "more ready than Hillary."

So get ready. The mainstream media is set to push its few weak Democratic candidates on America. Meanwhile, the Republican Party will run its prospective candidates — maybe 30 — through the paces to find the one ready to lead in 2016. Hillary was crushed in 2008; if she goes in 2016, the result will be the same.

Only this time, it will be a Republican giving her a drubbing."

That's from a Washington Times piece, December 2014. Nothing but confidence and bravado. Everything but one name.

Then that unnamed clown comes along and proves one thing about the GOP deep bench...

...they all belonged on the bench.

Amazing

That was a deep bench with maybe three of them capable of beating Hillary in November

After weeding them out...they pick Trump

You can't make this stuff up

What's funny is how the Trump bandwagon was empty and collecting dust in a barn somewhere at that time,

but NOW you have all these Trumpbots running around acting as if they and Trump go waaaaay back!

Bill Kristol @BillKristol
Sticking with my prediction: Trump will win no caucuses or primaries, and will run behind Ron Paul 2012 in IA and NH.

Trump is what happens to a movement that is dying. Namely, conservatism.

In December of 2008, CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS were giving George Bush the highest approval rating of any group:

72%!

But 7 years later they were given the opportunity to put a George Bush clone back in office, and not just Jeb Bush but several others,

and they said NO!!! as emphatically as could be.

What happened??????

Yes but so was the Right. The anti-war right was limited to the Ron Paul crowd, etc., and overwhelmingly most conservatives hated them.

Gawd you guys are shitting bricks! Don't blame you though. The Beast is going to be your standard-bearer if she's not in prison. LOL

You're nominating a guy who agrees with Bernie Sanders on trade, Social Security, and the Iraq war,

and you're probably only supporting that because you really think the Mexicans are going to build that wall, lol.

I am not the one shitting bricks. The inevitable is coming because you have an old sleaze of a candidate who very few people actually like.
