The new company will be called Dassault Reliance Aerospace and will be based in Mihan, India. India is planning to purchase 250 aircraft made in India over the next two decades, a program estimated to cost approximately €180bn. The objective is nothing less than self-reliance for the crucial aerospace defense industry according to Air Force officials.

But, the joint venture with Rafale will go beyond a “made in India” version of the plane.

The program envisages the creation of an Indian light combat aircraft and a fifth generation fighter in partnership with private Russian defense contractors.
