Red states are known for imposing lower taxes than blue states, but it appears they are able to do so because they are more dependent on federal funding. There was a 34.4 percent correlation between a state’s federal dependency and its tax rates, meaning the more dependent a state is on the federal government, the less likely it is to charge high tax rates. Red states had an average dependency ranking of 33.5, while blue states ranked 19.2 on average. Let’s take a look at the 10 states most dependent on the government, according to WalletHub.

Here are the metrics for it:

Return on taxes paid to the federal government: This illustrates how many dollars in federal funding state taxpayers receive for every one dollar in federal income taxes they pay. It excludes from the federal funding the loans/guarantees component because it does not represent permanent transfers from the federal government to a state.

Federal funding as a percentage of state revenue: This metric shows how much of a state’s annual revenue, and theoretically its spending, is provided by the federal government. Without this money, revenue would have to be found elsewhere – perhaps via tax hikes – or else key state services would suffer.

Number of federal employees per capita: This metric speaks to the federal government’s role as a nationwide employer, indicating the percentage of a state’s workforce that owes its very livelihood to Washington.

Nothing about this statement is true :cuckoo:

Florida, Ga and Texas would beg differ westwall ;) Most likely because of demographics and the fact that the people are less educated.

Excuse me?

Get into a debate with me Matthew, I'll show you just how "uneducated" we are. Also, my uncle lives in Texas, an Astronomer, a Computer Engineer... Your stereotype of my fellow Georgians is quite stereotypical. Moreover, we weren't uneducated, we didn't vote a liar into the White House. So easily manipulated into believing that "Hope and Change" mantra that you didn't bother to research the man you were voting for. How dare you impugn yourself on us?

Red states on average are less educated.

This is very true , we moved her over 20 years ago and the state of education is really backward in the rural areas, couple that with the fundamentalist Christianity and you have a real backwards ignorant base. It has gotten much worse in the past two years here in NC with teachers who originally came here to teach leaving for more educated states.

It's not because the population is significantly lower in red states, it's because their intelligence is

And the more you watch FFFFFFFFFFFFox, the dumber you get...

This is about how much of a federal tax dollar you get back from each a state pays- has nothing to do with population...ay caramba!

Sorry. the OP's premise doesn't stack up:

The politics and demographics of food stamp recipients
BY RICH MORIN126 COMMENTS

Democrats are about twice as likely as Republicans to have received food stamps at some point in their lives—a participation gap that echoes the deep partisan divide in the U.S. House of Representatives, which on Thursday produced a farm bill that did not include funding for the food stamp program.

Overall, a Pew Research Center survey conducted late last year found that about one-in-five Americans (18%) has participated in the food stamp program, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. About a quarter (26%) lives in a household with a current or former food stamp recipient.

Of these, about one-in-five (22%) of Democrats say they had received food stamps compared with 10% of Republicans. About 17% of political independents say they have received food stamps.

The share of food stamp beneficiaries swells even further when respondents are asked if someone else living in their household had ever received food stamps. According to the survey, about three in ten Democrats (31%) and about half as many Republicans (17%) say they or someone in their household has benefitted from the food stamp program.

Obviously, Democrats are and have been the party of parasites since LBJ's Great Society program. That's what he meant when he said he'd be having '*******' vote Dem for 100 years.
