Reagan Trumps Obama

I wouldn't call him a liar about Iran Contra

I would.

Remember this one?

"If the question comes up at the Tower Board meeting, you might say you were surprised!" - Dumbass read his cue cards on stage. One of the biggest jokes in American History- a fifth-rate actor plays president for 8 years, and over half the country bought it and keeps eating it like candy.

Oh Yes! Magnificent speech, Dr. Reagan! Absolutely Magnificent! Invaded any small third-world countries today? Armed and funded any terrorist groups? Guess that sort of thing really make an old man glow, Mr. President.

Ronald could certainly shovel the shit better than Obama, I'll certainly grant you that.

They hold him up as their golden hero but I just don't see it. Perhaps relatively speaking, the rest of them looked so awful they made him look good.

Why does this nonsense not surprise me, it is always image over substance. Reagan was an actor who couldn't even draw the line between acting and the presidency. A supporter of McCarthyism, he should have been impeached for Iran Contra, but after Nixon the nation had had enough.

Walsh Iran / Contra Report - Chapter 27 President Reagan

"President Reagan created the conditions which made possible the crimes committed by others by his secret deviations from announced national policy as to Iran and hostages and by his open determination to keep the contras together ``body and soul'' despite a statutory ban on contra aid.1"

"In the Iran initiative, President Reagan chose to proceed in the utmost secrecy, disregarding the Administration's public policy prohibiting arms sales to nations supporting terrorism. He also chose to forgo congressional notification under the National Security Act and the Arms Export Control Act.2 Having bypassed accountability to Congress, the President failed either to establish an effective system of accountability within the Administration or to monitor the series of activities he authorized.3 Working in a climate of extreme secrecy and operating without accountability, National Security Adviser John M. Poindexter, Lt. Col. Oliver L. North of the National Security Council staff and others associated with the initiative invited criminal acts including profiteering on the Iranian arms sales, the diversion of some of those proceeds to aid the contras, destroying documents, and lying to Congress to cover up their criminal activities."

Abuse of power and illegal activity should have led to the impeachment of Reagan."

When Reagan gave his Normandy speech it came from the heart. When Obama did it, it came from personal ego! Yes Reagan was an actor, but, Obama wins Best Actor!

Only in the eyes of the True Believer Conservatives. Even given his acting background (sincerity my ass) he wasn't any better than Obama. Eat your jealous little hearts out.

As to him looking down on these happenings, I sort of see him looking UP.

Jealous of Obama? Dear God Gayboy, your riding that Pink Cloud for all it's worth aren't you?

Line up Gayboy behind your Golden Cow, the phony, the poser, it clearly is your rightful place.

It is rather rich to see the pro-Obama-at-all-cost supporters scramble into this thread and denounce Reagan as a "script reader".

Really now...you wish to open a comparison of Obama's use of the Teleprompter? He has been the most scripted president in history.

As to the tired deflections that Reagan was stupid...the few detractors simply repeat a tired mantra that is based on philosophical dislike rather than actual knowledge of the man.

Reagan was one of the more astute and experienced political minds of his era, having helped form the revived Conservative Movement in America over the course of decades. His writings since his passing have only confirmed that fact. While his personal aloofness, and disinterest in power often confused both opponents and supporters, on the larger issues that encompass the office of President, Reagan's core beliefs were resolute, clearly defined, and carried out with quiet determination. Like many great men, Reagan was an enigma, but that in no way lessens his greatness.

And more so than his political contemporaries, Reagan's words remain even more critical at this juncture in our nation's history...

And great reading for those who wish to actually understand the inherent intellectual prowess of Reagan the man, and leader:

And perhaps the single greatest look into the sincere gentleman that was Ronald Reagan. This book gives us a Reagan that progresses from hopeful youth, to aged leader, and all points between, a vast series of letters from Reagan's own pen written to world leaders, pundits, and average Americans. The man was, in his own quietly dignified way - brilliant. Even a longtime leftist colleague, (He voted for Nader...TWICE) upon finishing the book, admitted he was repeatedly struck by Reagan's ability to take issues of complexity that would often baffle a far more formally educated mind, and reduce them to their "basic core of purpose - something very few politicians can accomplish." (His words, which I quite agree with) One of the greatest books on a historical world leader I have had the pleasure to read...

In your opinion, that and 5 bucks will get you a cup of coffee...

Reagan wouldn't recognize this GOP
The Gipper may be the patron saint of Limbaugh and Coulter, but he'd be amazed at what's been done in his name.

In my mind's eye, I can see Ronald Reagan, wearing wings and a Stetson, perched on a cloud and watching all the goings-on down here in his old earthly home. Laughing, rolling his eyes and whacking his forehead over the absurdities he sees, he's watching his old political party as it twists itself into ever more complex knots, punctuated only by pauses to invoke the Gipper's name. It's been said that God would be amazed by what his followers ascribe to him; believe me, Reagan would be similarly amazed by what his most fervent admirers cite in their desire to be seen as true-blue Reaganites.

This article explains how Reagan actually got the ball rolling for the Depression we are in today. Enron, Deregulations, Arming Bin Ladin, Keating 5, credit card companies, oil companies, breaking unions, war for profit,

In the GOP's mind, Bush 2 was better than Reagan. They just can't admit that to the masses that the last 8 years were great to them.

More like Best Poseur.

In order to act, you have to step into the person you're portraying, rather than just parrot some words while mechanically looking from prompter to prompter.

Please, Reagan was a B grade actor. Obama uses that prompter just as any speaker would use notes and he always knows where he is and what he is talking about.

Unlike Reagan. Clinton was a better president than Reagan.

What's Barry's excuse for having zero ability to speak extemporaneously??

There are plenty of great actors out there -Oscar winners even- who can't speak off the cuff to save their lives.

The difference being here is the words coming from one's being and core beliefs, rather than just regurgitated to get one result or another.

Speaking of which, the NLP process language written for him in his supposedly "soaring" speeches is rather easily learned.....Yet he hasn't learned the language and techniques. He'd best hope his head speech writer doesn't quit or have a bad accident.

It's clear that Obama is very well informed on any subject and he has a great sense of humor. Off the cuff especially.

Reagan's legacy should stand on it's own, it's interesting how you all need to continue comparing him to other presidents. If he is really the greatest leader ever, it would be obvious he is head and shoulders above the rest. Who are you trying to convince?

Time will tell who has accomplished more.

Mr. Couch Potato or Obama..

Reagan was a proud American who's heart was in his speech in France, Obama is a spiteful American who holds contempt in his heart for the history of this nation. Obama is not the least bit able to understand the men who hit those beaches!

Obama did his dog and pony show, so be it. But let's not try to fool anyone that he is a proud American, he is anything except that.

The Obama Carnival on Tour once again! Step up and see the freak show, The Phony and Michelle!

Yeah..."Informed" as in informed as to what he's supposed to say, as outlined by his handlers. As opposed to the words coming from his core beliefs.

The only comparison between Reagan and Barry Obolshevik here is the ability to speak from conviction, rather than merely spewing words -more often than not written by someone else- to get a result.

And if you want to veer of into the realm of sense of humor, little Barry becomes even a bigger joke.

LOL of course he does, because he makes an ass of himself when he doesn't have his cheat screen to read from. Obama is a phony!

You couldn't blowviate more if you drank mexican tap water. Reagan's "core" beliefs. What a crock of shit. He changed parties for convenience, he was an actor for christ sakes. He wasn't even a smart man..and you accuse Obama of parroting lines. Reagan was the biggest fraud of all the "acting line readers" He commited multiple felonies much less high crimes and misdemeanors.

You know sparky ...not every one here is as ignorant as you hoped. Your persistance in tearing down our country will be met and pushed back into the darkness from which you have been spawned.

First off, I'm neither a republican nor one of their apologists...Reagan's presidency was a mixed bag politically speaking.

My only comments in this area are in terms of speaking ability and speaking from beliefs. As was already pointed out, acting ability has absolutely no bearing upon being able to speak extemporaneously.

The only ignorance insofar as use of language and dispassionate critiques of speaking abilities here is yours.

The Iran-Contra scandal is irrelevant.

Your opinion as to whether I'm "tearing down our country" is irrelevant.
