Reagan Trumps Obama

Yeah..."Informed" as in informed as to what he's supposed to say, as outlined by his handlers. As opposed to the words coming from his core beliefs.

The only comparison between Reagan and Barry Obolshevik here is the ability to speak from conviction, rather than merely spewing words -more often than not written by someone else- to get a result.

And if you want to veer of into the realm of sense of humor, little Barry becomes even a bigger joke.

You couldn't blowviate more if you drank mexican tap water. Reagan's "core" beliefs. What a crock of shit. He changed parties for convenience, he was an actor for christ sakes. He wasn't even a smart man..and you accuse Obama of parroting lines. Reagan was the biggest fraud of all the "acting line readers" He commited multiple felonies much less high crimes and misdemeanors.

You know sparky ...not every one here is as ignorant as you hoped. Your persistance in tearing down our country will be met and pushed back into the darkness from which you have been spawned.

He was a Democrat, wasn't he..

I mentioned he was a nice grandfatherly type but he really got himself into some trouble trying to ad lib. All of these GOP figureheads end up trying to convince people that they actually are the president but it always backfires.

Only because they really aren't real leaders.

No more or less than Jim Jeffords or Arlen Specter were republicans.

Do you suppose Ronnie in the 80's was a robot and a creation of the corporate state, this Reagan speech doesn't sound like the one we came to know and dislike. Amazing that a man could change so, maybe Alzheimer's started earlier than acknowledged, sounds like a socialist in the minds of republicans today.

So, Reagan became demonstrably better at public speaking as his career in politics progressed.

I detect not even the most minute such improvement, despite the marked improvement in the understanding of the workings of linguistics and neuro-semantics, in the speaking ability of little Barry.

Reporting Live by Lesley Stahl

It began to bother me that a man as ill informed as Ronald Reagan was setting the economic course for the country against the advice of so many of his own people. That was true of his foreign policy as well. My concerns wer heightened at his third news conference on June 16. Asked about the Israelis' recent attack on Iraqi nuclear reactor in which they had used US made jets, Reagan replied. "I can't answer that." On Israel's refusal to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty? "I haven't given very much thought to that question there." Packistan's refusal to sign the treaty? "I won't answer the last part of the question." Earlier in the week he had bumped into his own housing secretary at a reception for big-city mayors and said, "How are you, Mr. Mayor. How are things in your city?" There were quiet little suspicions among the reporters that Reagan, the course setter, was sinking into senility.

This was from Lesley's book, the press went so easy on him all of the time. It's always been quite frightening a thought that he was sinking into Alzheimer's for years and yet still continued at the helm.

YouTube - Reagan Campaigns for Truman in 1948

Good! You are digging into the actual history of this great American! Learning of Reagan's political arc is a fascinating study on the political complexities of a man the leftists attempted to dispel as simple, when in fact, it was often his experience, beliefs, and ultimate convictions were far broader by miles than those of his critics.

Following his support of Truman, who many conservatives supported - while many liberals abondoned, (thus Truman's very low approval rating as he left office) Reagan then turned to supporting Eisenhower in 1952 - being one of the more prominent members of the "Democrats for Ike" committee.

It was in 1954, when Reagan was hired by GE to host "GE Theatre" that Reagan's already initiated political transformation truly began to take shape. During the next eight years of this job, Reagan went from GE plant to GE plant, giving speeches while meeting a broad spectrum of working class Americans. It is perhaps the most intimate and sustained experience with working America any politician has had in the modern era, and it deeply imbedded in Reagan an appreciation for those who worked to both make America stronger, as well as for better opportunities for the next generation to come. What many leftists fail to recognize is that Reagan came from very humble beginnings, and was himself a self-made man. His appreciation for work, for goals, for an opportunity to succeed, were deeply imbedded in his psyche, and his eight year run at GE Theatre allowed him to share and learn from others who felt the same.

By 1960, Reagan is again a Democrat campaigning for a Republican - this time Richard Nixon. By now, Reagan represents the conservative wing of the Democrat Party, which at that time is split evenly between support for Nixon, and support for Kennedy. Kennedy himself, while more socially progressive, was very much in line with conservatives regarding foreign policy, and even general tax policy. (He cut taxes in an effort to stimulate the economy)

The real political crossroad for Reagan occurs in 1962 when he has a dispute with GE over its contracts with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Reagan saw the TVA as an example of abusive big government, and was troubled over GE's complicity with this government agency that stifled competition and ultimately hurt the consumer - ie, the average American. Reagan feels as if the Democrat Party has transformed into simply a tool of Big Government, a collusive entity that would only weaken and diminsh America.

And so, Reagan publicly announces his affiliation with the Republican Party, which was newly emerging under the leadership of Barry Goldwater.

When Goldwater runs against the Big Government Democrat Lynden Johnson, Reagan becomes one of the better known supporters of Goldwater, and following his now famous and oft-quoted speech "A Time for Choosing", Reagan becomes the the new leader of the Conservative Movement in America following Goldwater's defeat.

It is at this time that America, similar to today, is deeply divided between social moderates and conservatives, and the growing social liberals who see government as a tool to change society via mandate. Middle America is repulsed by the extremes history will record as the Counter-Culture (the very environment our current president's mother weened her half-black son upon).

Reagan will serve two successful (albeit volatile) terms as California governor, where his conservative stance is seen as a protective barrier to the extremes of the leftists working to overrun that state. In 1968 Reagan makes a half-hearted gesture of of running for President, but quickly defers to Nixon, not wishing to embroil the Republican Party into a prolonged campaign battle - and thinking perhaps his own time was not quite yet, and wishing to complete a second term as California's governor. It is during this second term that Reagan begins battling in earnest state Democrats over the ever-growing entitlement programs being doled out, demonizing welfare as a crippling burden upon federal, state, and local economies. Reagan's popularity with the electorate allows him to forge a compromise welfare reform bill in California in 1971. By 1973, due in great part to reductions in California state spending, Reagan resides over a 1.1 billion surplus, allowing him to send rebate checks to Californians.

There will be another truncated presidential campaign, in which Reagan almost defeats a sitting President for the Republican nomination, and gives yet another pivotal political speech that leaves many in that same convention shaking their heads, realizing that perhaps, they were nominating the wrong guy.

Four years later this would all be remedied though as Reagan receives the nomination - a candidate with decades of political experience, significant results, and a philosophy honed upon a bedrock of personal experience, and love of country.

Ronald Reagan will become the 40th President of the United States, and the ultimately, remains the greatest American president of the last half century.

That speaks more to the weakness of the other presidents in that time frame, than anything else.

I'll just stick to the topic of the thread, which is his undeniable vast superiority over the present prez, viz. his communication skills and speaking from personal conviction.

They did. He was the teflon president, remember?
That doesn't mean that the press didn't stop throwing shit at the man....Just that none of it stuck.

They should have been a lot harder on him after it became apparent he was probably getting senile.

So by that logic, the press should be a lot harder on Obama because he is...high????

Case in point...

Obama has so much energy and works so hard, he's allowed a mistake now and then. Reagan could in no way be compared to him. He was lucky if he could get from the couch to the fridge for a snack between old movies.

Ah, now you show your colors.

You are in fact, as suspected, completely ignorant of your own history.

Another classic Obamamism:

Sinatra, try and speak intelligently about these things. Some of us (me) can't listen or see youtube on work computers.

I'd rather have a transcript that I could backcheck anyway.
