Rate Your Fave US Presidents

Abraham Lincoln may have been great just because he won the civil war and gave freedom to the slaves, but I can agree to put him at the top of the list.
President Lincoln sacrificed states rights to govern themselves and brought in a new era of federal power over the states. That is what has got us into this political mess we have now.

1. George Washington
2. Ronald Regan
3. FDR "Despite is RAW Deal" it was a good ideal just flawed execution.
4. JFK
5. Abraham Lincoln

I have no desire to take this thread into a tangent, but how was the federal government violating the Constitution and assuming more power to interfer in peoples lives a good ideal?

At the time the Raw Deal was created America was in a panic, Crime was up and people were starving in the street FDR wanted to give instant relief so he executed his "New Deal" If you explore into the character of FDR you will see that he didn't expect the socialist programs to grab traction and last beyond getting the economy back on track
A lot of the people from the 30's and 40's had pride and even resisted taking government help that was offered through the "Raw Deal"
would have helped if FDR would have read more about what Benjamin Franklin said
(When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.
-- Benjamin Franklin)

Lincoln, He essentially remade the US.

Washington, Both for what he did and for what he didn't do

Franklin Roosevelt, A leader in peace and war, made America a much better place for the working class.

Theodore Roosevelt, Kept the best and most unusual lands in this nation for all of us. A wonderfully socialistic concept that resulted in our beautiful National Park system.

1) Abraham Lincoln
2) Franklin Delano Roosevelt
3) George Washington
4) Teddy Roosevelt
5) Bill Clinton
6) John Fitzgerald Kennedy
7) Dwight Eisenhower
8) Thomas Jefferson
9) Woodrow Wilson
10) Barack Obama

I could even live with the overrated FDR where you have him and even the liar in chief on there... but the second you put Obama as a top 10 prez... you lost any and all credibility you may have had... absofuckinglutely laughable

John Fucking Kennedy -
1. Stood toe to toe with Nikita Khrushchev and didn't back down. From the Berlin airlift to the Cuban missile crisis Kennedy was faced with the only other superpower the world has ever known. These showdowns and his wiliness to "walk the walk" kept the Russian bear at bay.
2. Launched the space race to the moon. May not seem like much but the technological advances that we achieved during the 10 years of the 60's spread across all aspects of American society.
3. Negotiated the nuclear test ban treaty for above surface tests. Before this treaty nuclear explosions were conducted above ground releasing radioactive fallout all over the United States. I still remember the radio warnings about staying inside and not eating the snow (of course you never eat yellow snow!!) back in the late 50's and 60's. Many babies were affected by this fallout during that time. This treaty stopped it.
4. Peace Corps - this encouraged young people to become involved and still is active today building good American men and women.

Had he not been assassinated … we will never know how great a president he could have become. The 60’s were a turbulent time; civil rights, women’s movement, Cold War, Vietnam War, drugs, and other influences that pervaded the society.

But I have to put him up there with some of the icons of America, G. Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan.

....I agree, he's officially on my top 5.

1. Thomas Jefferson- Loved his ideals.
2. John Adams- Very blunt from what I have read.
3. George Washington- Didn't want to rule, but did so for the will of the people.

Wow...named the first three

Guess we went downhill from there

Anyone who would put Obama in that list of great men has a screw loose. I'm not listing them just because they were effective but in their time they showed great leadership.

My list:

1. Abraham Lincoln
2. George Washington
3. Ronald Reagan
5. Thomas Jefferson
6. John Adams
7. Harry S. Truman
8. John F. Kennedy
9. George W. Bush
10. Dwight D. Eisenhower

I left out Bill Clinton because of his scandals and FDR because of his socialist programs, his ruthless treatment of businesses. Both could have been better leaders then they were.

The Hall of Shame is as follows:

1. Barrack Obama
2. Jimmy Carter
3. Richard Nixon
4. Lyndon B. Johnson
5. Woodrow Wilson
6. Ulysses S. Grant
8. Andrew Johnson
9. Andrew Jackson
10. Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton makes the list because he couldn't keep it in his pants and he's still manipulating the government as we speak. He did however have a real gift as a leader that was unfulfilled.

You.....I like you.

How does GWB end up on anyone's list?

I actually agree with you... while I do not consider GWB to be the 'evil' or 'stupid' President our resident hyper-partisan left-wingers do.... he was by no means great... handled some things very well in a tough time, but was horrid in terms of domestic policy and the economy... I would give him somewhere around a 5 out of 10

Add those 2 and you have the trifecta of shame.

Thank heavens for the two-term amendment. Otherwise, Reagan and Clinton would have been elected to three terms, and we would have had an Alzheimer's dude and a grabby gotcha for presidents. Shoot, Bill is still popular and might otherwise be gearing up for his sixth campaign for president.

My 4 worst list.
1. Ronald Reagan - Violated the Constitution (Committed treason really) and grew the national debt incrementally more then any president prior to him..or after.
2. Lyndon Johnson - Expanded the Vietnam War beyond what it should have been (Which was ended) and responsible for the death and suffering of millions.
3. George W. Bush - Probably the worst President ever. Violated the Constitution on numerous occassions and started 2 wars one of which was completely unjustified. Caused death and suffering for hundreds of thousands.
4. Richard Nixon - Another one who violated the Constitution. Expanded the Vietnam war and started secret wars in Laos and Cambodia. Responsible for the death and suffering of millions.
