(R)IGHTeous 1, read below and correct yur projecting on me your failings. You are mismanaging the data, deliberately and dishonestly I believe. The Tea Party is not conservative, it is reactionary far to the right of the conservatives ~ a very small group of Americans, who are not anywhere near mainstream.
The 40% figure recognizes slightly right of center to responsible conservatives. The 20% are liberals. Adding to this, about 22% of Americans identify with the GOP, 25% with the Dems, so it comes to (as it always does), which party can dominate the center. The GOP did it this time because of jobs, not ideology.
As the economy recovers, the effort of the mostly white, mostly elderly, mostly pissed as hell still about the sixties, will die off.
