Marrakesh Belly Dance Restaurant: Ethnic Experience Notebook



There are numerous ethnic-based restaurants in capitalism-friendly America today.

In fact, Chinatown, San Francisco (USA) is an American business district comprised of Chinese restaurants.

While America has had a number of cultural and political disagreements with the Middle East over Israel-Palestine issues, there are a number of Middle Eastern restaurants in America that even feature distinctly Middle Eastern atmosphere, decor, etiquette, and customs that are normalized (and celebrated) by regular customers and patrons.

I know of a Moroccan restaurant called Marrakesh (in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA) that boasts Middle Eastern stylized belly dance entertainment. A belly dancer is a cherished entertainer in the Middle East, but in the West in can be construed as 'fleshy' entertainment, and such assumptions can hypothetically offend someone from the Middle East.

However, this Moroccan restaurant in Philadelphia seems to be doing fine in business and society with its belly dancer routines, and it seems to be doing well financially and obtaining favorable customer reviews.

Perhaps for our age of consumerism, mercantilism can ironically promote cultural understanding.

Who then is the demon/goblin promoting bigotry/racism in the business world?
