Question For Christians & Atheists

That is not what I meant. You believe he exists, but you can't prove that he exists to me, can you?

You can't see the wind but you can see the effects of the wind blowing. Same thing with God. You can't see Him but if you open your eyes you can see proof of His presence.

I am pretty sure science tells us that wind exists, too. Science doesn't tell us that God exists - why would that be?

scientist also told us that humans didn't have auras around them b/c they couldn't see/measure it, even though millions of people can.

Now they can see/measure it.

sooo

Lets say you had a chance to fine out, once and for all, whether God actually existed. Would a Christian want to take the chance that God didn't exist? Would they still believe in God even though a God didn't exist?

If God did exist, you would also find out whether it was the Christian version or Islamic version of God - would you still want to know?

Or do you prefer not knowing?

What makes you think I don't know?

The believers have had over three thousand years to prove a god exists. For that matter the fantasy sky fairy has had ample opportunity to present itself. The biggest "no show" in history. Why do you suppose this all knowing all powerful being has only revealed itself to just a couple of guys in secret? If I was going to go "zombie" and give my life over to some illusion at least I would come up with something more reliable and straight forward.

My "god" would make itself known to all...make simple demands.. Be clear of purpose. In short...honorable...something really worth looking up to...not some scamming .. murdering...stealing manipulative piece of shit that would allow disgusting perverted behavior. If MY GOD was a see all know all god he/she/it would smite most of you lying perverted assholes right on the spot. My god would have witnesses that would come back from the dead on a regular basis with accurate and up to the minute reports on heaven and hell.

My god wouldn't reward stupidity. My god would reward honesty and bravery in a straight forward manner so all could clearly see the benefit in believing and living by his/her/its commands.

My god would immediately punish anyone that took it upon themselves to "interpret" his/her/it's words and commands.

But no such god of truth and honor exists...does it.

So what you are threatening is the reveal of the flimsy immoral god of christianity?

Maybe this god won't show up because it is such a shitty god and has failed in every test.

Dear Huggy: by the time people believe in God, there is no more requirement to prove it because it will be taken for granted like gravity. We may require specific explanations and demonstrations of how laws work in nature and in practice, but we don't question that gravity and physics laws exist! Same with God and Jesus, and what they represent.

What most people are looking for is proof that Justice exists, and that Truth conquers falseness, and Love conquers fear. When we see proof of transformation, and right triumphing over wrong, we gain more faith that these things shall be established, and end the cycles of destruction that negate our faith that justice will trump injustice.

That is what most people need to see in order to believe. That you do get what you deserve in the end. There is a method to all this madness, there is higher justice or karmic cause and effect that is beyond any law enforced by man, but is coming from a higher source.

P.S. I know that is a serious answer with deep implications about where humanity is heading. If you prefer a lighter approach to having this one God make a final show,
there is a great satire website by a humanist, about whose God is the right one. Enjoy!

I agree. People think they need an explaination. They op for the simple all inclusive one. I do not.

I think God has proven over and over again that he exists:

"I Believe"

I believe for every drop of rain that falls
A flower grows,
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night
A candle glows,
I believe for everyone who goes astray,
Someone will come to show the way,
I believe, I believe.

I believe above the storm a smallest prayer
Will still be heard,
I believe that someone in the great somewhere
Hears every word,
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry,
Or touch a leaf, or see the sky,
Then I know why,
I believe.

Every time I hear a newborn baby cry,
Or touch a leaf, or see the sky,
Then I know why,
I believe.

I LOVE Don Williams lyrics to "I believe in you"
Just appreciate the simple wonders in life, and you can see love everywhere:

I don't believe in superstars
Organic food and foreign cars
I don't believe the price of gold
The certainty of growing old
That right is right and left is wrong
That north and south can't get along
That east is east and west is west
And being first is always best

But I believe in love I believe in babies
I believe in Mom and Dad And I believe in you

Well, I don't believe that heaven waits
For only those who congregate
I like to think of God as love
He's down below, he's up above
He's watching people everywhere
He knows who does and doesn't care
And I'm an ordinary man
Sometimes I wonder who I am

But I believe in love I believe in music
I believe in magicAnd I believe in you

I know with all my certainty What's goin' on with you and me
Is a good thing It's true, I believe in you

I don't believe virginity
Is as common as it used to be
In working days and sleeping nights
That black is black and white is white
That Superman and Robin Hood
Are still alive in Hollywood
That gasoline's in short supply
The rising cost of getting by

But I believe in love I believe in old folks
I believe in children I believe in you
I believe in love I believe in babies
I believe in Mom and Dad And I believe in you

I'm a huge Don Williams fan.

You can't see the wind but you can see the effects of the wind blowing. Same thing with God. You can't see Him but if you open your eyes you can see proof of His presence.

You are descibing a pick pocket..You didn't feel your wallet get taken from your possession....but the fact it is gone proves that someone took it. Not evidence of an all powerfull an all loving..all knowing superior being. A real god wouldn't play games with you. A real god that REALLY loves "his children" wouldn't fuck with their heads. Do you play head games with your kids? The most primative animals don't play head games with it's offspring.

Any games we could play on ourselves that are unfair,
can be traced to some fear or unforgiven issue we have that
we did not resolve yet.

The point of having free will, reason and conscience is to
learn to correct ourselves, and prevent our weaknesses from becoming a problem.
If this does cause a problem, we work to solve it.

So having faith or understanding that we are driven by good will and truth
to seek resolution as part of the learning curve; and accepting that our individual
learning lessons are part of a collective plan from a greater source including
all things in life is what it means to believe in one God as this ultimate source.

If we don't have this faith in the answers in life being on our side, that means that we instead have fear of forces outside our control, usually because we have unforgiven issues that we blame on things or people we then try to control or stop them from controlling us.

Seeing the bigger picture, that encompasses this entire process as GOOD and NOT harmful, evil or cruel, is what it means to have faith and understanding of God as universal love, good, truth, etc.

if you see God or God's will as anything negative or harmful in any way,
by definition that cannot be what God's will is. For God's will to be true it must be universally good and beneficial to all humanity and overcome all wrong or injustice. So it has to be good, or it contradicts the very meaning of God's will.

We have free will because it is a powerful evolutionary and survival skill. It allowed us to make unpredictable choices and stay several steps ahead of predators.

That is not what I meant. You believe he exists, but you can't prove that he exists to me, can you?

How do you know that he, or I, can't prove to you that God exists?

a)She actually didn't say she knows that, just see that she asked a question rather than making a statement.
b)It would be perhaps the greatest revelation (pun intended) ever to be able to prove the existence of god, so it isn't unreasonable to assume that if you were able to do so, it would get out and become common knowledge.

are either of you able to exist without your physiological form ?

the OuterWorld of the Everlasting exist and is observable and by the Garden proves to have a persuasion that is the duty of the Almighty -

extracting oneself from their physiological form can only be accomplished by learning and living the Persuasion set by God allowing for the entrance to the OuterWorld that fulfills the sole commandment of Remission. - otherwise the sole expires incomplete the same as the body.

God will never be proven to exist because it would remove the entire concept of "having faith" which is the cornerstone of being a believer. IMO

I get it.

a) When she said "You can't prove He exists to me" she was actually saying something else.
b) The statement she made was specific to being able to prove that God exists to her, that happens all the time in one on one interactions.

Thanks for playing.

That is simply because a bunch if idiots decided to lie to you about what faith actually means.

What is your definition of "faith"?

faith   /feɪθ/ Show Spelled[feyth] Show IPA
noun
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4. belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5. a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.

i can not prove to an unbeliever that god exists. I can not prove to an unbeliever that he will burn in hell forever. Are you willing to find out the hard way?

Probably we have yet to believe in a measurement for godhood?

People always point to this aspect or that aspect of the world to prove their god.

But have they not forgotten that other religions do the same thing. Even more disturbing are the polytheistic religions that claim there is a god for basically every aspect of the universe.

A god of the sun
A god of the moon
A god of rain
A god of sunshine
A god of war
A god of peace
A god of childbirth
A god of death

Name something, and there is a god for it. That was the proof of the Polytheist.

Then came along some fellow who resisted the polytheists. That fellow claimed that his god was god over all--including the other gods!!(That is right, he did not reject the polytheists altogether, he reasoned that there was a king of all gods and creator of all things including the other gods!) Thus that was how Monotheism was born.

So when you say--"Look--I can breathe! That is proof of my God!" It is also proof of one of those lesser gods that people no longer pray to. A proof that is as questionable as unicorns and Satyrs that nobody who believed could show an actual example of.

Which scientist said that? Given the fact that mammals give off heat and sweat, I doubt that these scientists were biologists.

Or it is possible that someone want to hype up a "non-claim" or a false scientific strawman fact in order to prove it wrong. Charlatans do that all the time in order to give themselves an air of authority.

Find these scientists that were disproved. Try it.

Faith is driving across a bridge expecting it to not fall down. Is there a lack of evidence for that belief? Of course not. Is there absolute proof the bridge won't collapse? Again, of course not.

But where is the difference between faith and superstition?
Superstition was that one had to have an elephant cross the bridge before it was deemed passable. Why?
Lack of faith.
Andrew Carnegie had an elephant cross over his 1st steel bridge over the Mississippi in the 1890s.
Investors and rail road $$$ would not commit until after that.

Superstition is believing that you need a rabbits foot or the bridge will collapse.

So simple even an idiot can understand it.
