40 mile long convoys are not token forces. The fight for the Donbass happened AFTER the failed attempt at taking Kiev. Even still, Russians are struggling to hold what they've taken.

There is nothing in Ukraine west of Kiev that Putin wants. He wants the warm-water port in Crimea and the bread basket of Ukraine, which also gives him access from Russia to Crimea. Simple strategy. It has nothing to do with the ethnic Russians in Ukraine--they were just the vanguard to justify the acquisition of strategic ground. Putin couldn't care less if Ukraine killed everyone in Donbas. I just cut to the chase by getting beyond the limited war and then offering some inevitable probabilities is the US decides to escalate.

I'm of the opinion that the Russian people in the huge majority are completely resolved to stand with their government on protecting their homeland against all America's military aggression.
And Russia can have no more strongly resolved leader than Putin! Nor could the Russian people have a better choice than Putin to lead.

First, Putin is extremely wise to US tactics.
Second, he is more resolute than any other choice.
And third, he has the backing of over 80% of the Russian people.

And fourth fwiw, Russia has the means to ensure it will never lose a major war!

The point is, of course, that using nukes in Ukraine will not change the course of the war unless Putin decides to use them to kill some horrific number of civilians and if that happens that will pretty much end Russia's ability to trade with other countries, and that will cause the collapse of the Russian economy even sooner than the present sanctions will.

Either way Russia loses, either because of defeats on the battlefield or the desolation of the Russian economy.

That the Russians staged a tactical feign to draw Ukrainian forces from the Donbas region, and only advanced AFTER the Ukrainians sent many of their soldiers to defend the capitol city Kiev.

What makes you so sure it would be Ukraine Russia would choose to kill millions from? They have said they want to do it to the UK several times.

First because the UK has 225 nukes of its own and because as a member of NATO, it has over 1500 nukes to use as a first out of three nuclear strikes against Russia to call on for its defense.
