CDZ Programs opposed by Conservatives that were successes

Affirmative Action was an offshoot of the Civil Rights Act
An answer to the response.......you may call them equal but I will be damned if I will hire them

The group that benefitted the most from affirmative action was white women. They gained access to colleges and professions that were formerly reserved or men

Prior to AA, the best jobs were reserved for white males

Since AA, Blacks, Hispanics, women have gained access to higher paying professions

They opposed whatever the program was called that integrated the military…..I’d call that a success.

If you saw our air and rivers in the 60s you would not consider EPA a failure

Medicare provides essential coverage to a group who could not get insurance otherwise

Medicare met with stiff opposition

But consider the alternative. You work your whole life with your employer providing health insurance. But when you retire at 65, you have to get insurance on the open market with whatever pre existing conditions you may have and advanced age

Medicare provided a safety net

You do know that employers only pay for some of your health insurance and they really don't pay for any of it because it's figured into your salary don't you?

I’m not sure what criteria you used to determine success, but with regard to Social Security, you would do MUCH MUCH better just buying the S and P index with the money you put into SS.

Yep, let those slimy bastards on Wall Street invest your money rather than let those slimy bastards in Washington steal it. Are you aware that this great social security trust fund is full of nothing but IOU’s from the same guys who took it from you in the first place?

Possible

But it would not have been practical in the 1930s when SS was formed.

We were in the middle of a depression. Care of the elderly was a crisis. A savings based plan would not give you a large enough nest egg until the 1960s

With a 401k, you can have your nestegg and a guaranteed annuity through SS

It’s a scam. I believe FDR set it up in good, albeit naive, faith. But is was doomed from the beginning because of the nature of government. It was poorly planned and carried out, and if you have any doubt about that all you have to know is the SS tax rate has increased 6 fold since it started and is still projected to be out of money (IOU’s) in 15 years.

Yep, that is what they told you to say. It will continue to be paid out using more national debt. Eventually they will make it it needs based (not what FDR intended). Essentially it will be a tax on the working and upper income for the benefit of the lowest contributors to society. Yep, at some point, if you can afford to pay Social Security tax, you will to wealthy to receive social security benefits. That is the way it has been trending since inception.

Wrong! It is part of out annual debt. I know it and so does B.O. if it weren’t part of our annual debt, the checks sent out wouldn’t be dependent on raising our debt ceiling.

Obama warns Social Security checks might not be sent Aug. 3
President Obama upped the ante in the ongoing debt-ceiling debate Tuesday, telling CBS News that without raising the ceiling, he can't guarantee that Social Security checks will be sent Aug. 3.

"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3 if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said.

Does that sound like a fully guaranteed and funded entitlement to you?

As for the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government for environmental protection.[3] President Richard Nixon proposed the establishment of EPA on July 9, 1970[4] and it began operation on December 2, 1970, after Nixon signed an executive order. The order establishing the EPA was ratified by committee hearings in the House and Senate. The agency is led by its Administrator, who is appointed by the President and approved by Congress
