All the News That's Fit to Ignore
By Kathleen Parker for Townhall
Dec 7, 2005

Murtha, Murtha, Murtha, Murtha, Murtha, Murtha, (Lieberman), Murtha, Murtha, Murtha. That's about how news coverage has gone the past several weeks concerning Rep. John Murtha's call to withdraw from Iraq versus Sen. Joe Lieberman's call to stand fast.

And the media wonder why newspaper circulations are dropping and why Fox News dominates television ratings over the networks and other cable programs. It's not that Murtha doesn't deserve airtime to voice a point of view many Americans share. It's that Lieberman surely deserves at least equal time for a point of view that other Americans, as well as most Iraqis, share.

Those who rely on traditional news sources other than The Wall Street Journal, which published an op-ed by the Connecticut senator, may not even have known that Lieberman recently returned from Iraq. Or that his conclusions were that the U.S. has to keep fighting the insurgency, and that two-thirds of Iraq is in "pretty good shape."

You don't have to be a partisan war hawk to see the difference in treatment of these two stories, from news reports to the talking head shows. Nearly all news outlets have presented Murtha as though he were suddenly emerging from the fevered swamps of manly conscience to share his revelations with a duped public.

In fact, as others have reported, he began expressing reservations in 2003, and in May of 2004 told Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper, that Iraq was "unwinnable," according to the conservative media watchdog Media Research Center (MRC). Even assuming that Murtha's arguments are heartfelt, they are not necessarily the revelatory assertions of a recently converted war hawk.

Meanwhile, Lieberman has been relatively ignored. As the MRC reported, the three major networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) led their evening newscasts with Murtha's remarks when he first came forward. CBS even included Murtha's attack on Vice President Dick Cheney's lack of military service.

Joe Lieberman is a neo-con in Democrat clothing. He's parroting the Administration line, and we already get enought of their propaganda. So, there's really no need to pay attention to Lieberman.

He is one of the few democrats that I respect...and for Bully's comment...well at least Joe is not a Socialist in Demo clothing! He is a actual Democrat! :salute:

Sorry Bully ... but the days of "Pravda" are over.... we now have the Internet and the so called "Fairness" Doctrine is not in effect.

What is the matter with all of you on the Left? You're so afraid of dissent! If your ideas are so correct, so right on the money, they should stand up to the scrutiny of debate and opposing opinions.

The Administration does not own the press, if it did, then CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times and all of the media would be reporting nothing but good news out of Iraq. On the contrary, the press and the media have distorted the truth about the events in Iraq in the most pejorative manner. The only exception (outside of the Internet) is Fox News and even it gives time to the liberal point of view.

I'll answer my own question. The Left is afraid of dissent because it must control others, it must dominate them, and force others to think as they do. They hate all freedom. They hate freedom of thought, the freedom of worship, the freedom of the press and the freedom of persons to express their political beliefs in public (except, of course, when it agrees with the Left's point of view). That sums up and explains the Left's attitude toward the war in Iraq and the efforts of those who have worked so hard to bring freedom to that country, stability to the Middle East and security to our country.

Finally Archangel is right, most Democrats are nothing more than Socialists....

I wish Lieberman were in charge of my party. Then I could once again be proud of being a Democrat. Instead we have Boxer, Pelosi and Dean. What a nightmare!

Instead we are now offiacally "The Defeatocrats".

I :salute: the troops.

Lieberman being in charge of the DNC wouldn't be enough, I'm afraid... they'd have to cast out all the wierdos, psychos, goof balls, nut cases, feminazis, tree huggers, whack jobs, communist wannabees, socialist wierdos, lesbian vegetarians, anti-war nuts, Castro lovers, America haters, global warming chicken littles, hyperventilating actresses, pro-abortion loons, all of Hollywood, socialist communist academics and Michael Moore....

which means that Joe Lieberman would be a very lonely guy

Long on opinion, short on facts.

FACT, a major newspaper was examined lately, and the terms, Left wing liberal Christian was used 19 times, the term Right wing conservative Christian was used over 1600 times. Yes sonny, the media leans wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to the left.

Now, those are facts. You have any to support your opinion that what the administration is putting out is propaganda, and that we get enough (? ) of it? Im assuming, by "enough" of it, you mean its fair (50%) share?

OH, and you accuse Lieberman of following the administration toe line? Uh, you do realize that this is the SAME Lieberman who ran for VICE PRESIDENT against THIS VERY ADMINISTRATION???

A further note, even more so than ignoring Lieberman, the real question is why they are ignoring Sam Johnson, who on the same day Murtha heaved his puke all over the place, Sam Johnson, who is a highly decorated 39 year vet of the Air Force, who flew fighter jet combat missions over Korea and Nam, and who was a POW for 7 years and spent half of that in solitary, Sam Johnson gave a speech calling for us to continue on, stay the course, that we will win if we continue, we are winning and that the most demoralizing thing to him in Nam was when congress voted to cut the funding for the Vietnam military.

Now, mind you, Sam Johnson has something most dont, a background in TWO wars. Korea, and Nam. He saw the difference that occurs when you cut and run, vs. staying the course.

Why isnt his speech all over the front pages??

Joseph Lieberman's strongest identity isn't as a Democrat or an American, but as a Jew. He's said so himself. As a Jew, his first loyalty is not to our nation, but to his own people and their nation, Israel. He wants to keep fighting "the war" because it benefits Israel.

I hear that he's being considered for Secretary of Defense. I think that's a great idea, only he should be Secretary of Defense for Israel, after moving there. If young men are to die to defend Israel, they should be Jews, not white gentiles. That is only decent and proper. Would King David have agreed? I think he would.

Im a Jew. You want me to go to Israel also?

So when are you sane Democrats going to start a grassroots movement to take back your party? Don't you think it is about time, or would you just prefer that things get a whole lot worse? The longer you wait, the more likely it will be that the U.S. will become a one-party political system, which would not be a good evolution.

Clinton isnt/wasnt stupid and was forced to govern more to the middle than he cared to. His approval rating dipped about as low as Bush's was recently, and he realized he needed to change his governing style.

Hillary is the same, a true socialist who is now espouses middle of the road politics to get her in posistion for the white house run.

The only thing that keeps repubs from gaining clear majorities is the false demonizing of them by the Dems and the MSM in cohoots. The negative statements about the Dems are true, as illustrated by Karl above, the negatives about the Repubs are bogus, old, and invalid. Hopefully, in the near future, our image will continue to get cleaned up, and not just by labels as "compassionate conservative" but rather that the general public in the middle sees that conservatives such as us are not a bunch of rich white Christian middle aged men who wish to rule with an iron fist of capitalism, horde all the money, punish women, treat kids as slaves, destroy the enviorment and are racists, bigots and homophobes at heart.
