Obama will be valued by History as eight years of stability between two of our worst modern presidents

The economy did pretty good in most years he was President, unemployment was low in most years. The recession of late 2008 had its roots in things that occurred before Bush was even in office.

The invasion of Afghanistan removed the Taliban from power. The invasion of Iraq moved Saddam from power. Two regimes that needed to be removed were removed swiftly with low casualties. Spending on the military during the Bush years despite the wars, as a percentage of GDP, was lower than the peacetime defense spending of the 1980s.

The current occupation of Afghanistan is the most successful occupation of Afghanistan in history. The strategies and lessons learned during the Bush years were followed by Obama in Afghanistan.

Obama unfortunately prematurely withdrew troops from Iraq in 2011 which meant Obama had to send them back in 2014 to deal with the rise of ISIS. A black mark on Obama's policy there and failure to fully follow Bush's lead, but Obama did get back in line and corrected his mistake.

Most of the tough leadership decisions on Foreign Policy and Defense Policy, the areas most impacted by a U.S. President, were made by the Bush administration. Obama was simply a follower in that regard and not always a good one. The economic recovery under Obama was sluggish and the reason unemployment dropped was mainly due to the decline of the labor force participation rate.

Obama was not bad as a President, but he was not as Good as George W. Bush or Bill Clinton. To have these three recent Presidents so widely apart in rankings shows EXTREME POLITICAL BIAS.

The economy was good until it crashed and Bush denied a problem and stood like a deer in the headlights. Worst recession in 75 years

Both Afghanistan and Iraq were disasters unnecessarily killing 7,000 Americans and hundreds of thousands of civilians. Bush gambled with his invasions and failed miserably.

Bush had universal support in his war on terror at home and abroad. He wasted it by abandoning the war on terror to foolishly invade Iraq

As much as I despise Trump, he has not done nearly the damage Bush did both at home and abroad

Saddam Hussien had to be removed from Iraq in order to insure the security of vital Persian gulf oil supply for the world market. The United States and other countries had been engaged in trying to contain Saddam through bombing, inspections, sanctions a weapons embargo etc from 1991 through 2002. The sanctions and weapons embargo regime started to fall apart in 1999. By 2000 Saddam was making Billions of dollars through black market illegal oil sales. Several of Iraq's neighbors were no longer enforcing sanctions along Iraq's borders. China openly violated the weapons embargo by improving Iraq's air defense systems. Russia and France also violated sanctions for their own interest as well. With the methods of containment shattered, the only option that remained was invasion and regime removal. Sooner the better as well, given that each year that would go by, Saddam would become stronger. To allow SADDAM to reconstitute is military capabilities that allowed him to invade multiple countries in the past as well as annex Kuwait in 1990 disrupting global oil supply and causing the 1990/1991 recession would be a tragedy. In retrospect, it was a mistake not to have removed SADDAM in 1991, but no one really believed Saddam would still be in power 5 years later after the defeat he suffered in 1991.

The casualties in removing Saddam were light compared to previous wars like Korea, Vietnam, World War I, World War II where the United States engaged in similar sized operations over several years. The United States succeeding in removing Saddam's regime and replaced it with a government that is no longer a threat to its neighbors or the region. While it has taken time for the Iraqi military and government to get up on its feet, it has largely succeeded in doing so with the help of the United States. The murder rate in Iraq in 2018 was less than the murder rate in California back in the 1980s. That is quiet and accomplishment given where Iraq has been in past years. Still, total civilian casualties so far, are much less than what was seen in conflicts like World War II, the liberation of France, bombing and liberation of Germany, bombing of Japan, the wars in Korea and Vietnam etc. Most of the civilian casualties were caused by terrorist and insurgents bent on preventing the United States and its coalition of countries from developing Iraq's new government and bringing stability to the country. But in the long run, the terrorist and insurgents have lost, and the United States, its coalition partners, and the new Iraqi Government have been victorious.

The region and world are safer today with Saddam no longer in power. Iraq is no longer held back by Saddam and other countries efforts to contain him. The standard of living in Iraq is rapidly improving. Iraq has already surpassed Morocco according to the UN Human Development Index and with a couple of years will be moving past South Africa in standard of living given the current rate of advancement in standard of living.

In Afghanistan, it was a necessity for the United States to remove the Taliban regime given their support and collusion with Al Quada and its attacks on the United States in 2001. When the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, it only took them 2 years to take over 95% of the country. Since being removed from power in 2001, the Taliban have FAILED to take and hold ANY of the 34 provincial capitals in the country. By the Talibans own standard given how rapidly they took over the country from 1994 to 1996, this is a major failure and sign of the United States successful intervention. Despite withdrawing from 110,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, down to 14,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, the Taliban have failed to make any real gains on the battlefield. The United States has successfully stood up the Afghan Army and police force. The only problem now is the unusually large casualties the Afghan army and police force are taking. That needs to be brought down. But the important thing is that despite the much lighter U.S. presence, the operation is working. Counter insurgency and nation building take time, but it is working as the results show. Also, in regards to the UN Human Development Index, Afghanistan was at the very bottom of the list in 2001. Its now ahead of several dozen Sub Saharan African countries on that list and if progress continues could catch up to Pakistan in 10 years.

The economy was good for most of the 8 years under Bush. Bush responded with aid package for the economy. Obama followed in his footsteps with regards to that aid package when he entered office. The recession was over by June 2009, less than 6 months after Obama took office.

Bush did a lot of good for the entire planet by removing the Taliban from power in Afghanistan and removing Saddam from power in Iraq. Those countries have a much brighter future today thanks to Bush's actions and the world is much safer today as well thanks to the removal of these threatening regimes. George W. Bush won re-election to Presidency in 2004 by the first majority in the popular vote since 1988, 16 years. It was an endorsement by the American people of EVERYTHING Bush had done in his first term in office! Trump won't be re-elected President unless there is a third party candidate to divide the anti-Trump vote.
