Agreed. And, I'm scared he may make the same mistake Reagan did. Reagan increased military spending and bought a whole bunch of equipment and ships, but he forgot to increase the recruiting goals for the services.

Net result? We had the ships, but not enough people to man them. I remember when ships were going out at only 85 percent manning. And, apparently, that is something that is happening again, because those Navy ships that crashed into Chinese vessels said that it was a result of not having enough people and the sailors were standing extra watches.

One thing most Leftists refuse to recognize is that a large part of the defense budget goes to American contractors who hire American employees. Not just military equipment but installation maintenance and improvement. You'd be amazed at just how much $$$ goes to the towns surrounding those bases (overseas as well).

Yeah, but there's also a nearly inconceivable amount of bloat. Congress regularly approves funding for billions upon billions in hardware the military doesn't even need or want. Hell, when I was in the Army my commander once had me and a handful of other guys go out and buy a fuck load of stuff our company didn't even need because it was close to the end of the budget cycle and we needed to inflate our numbers so we got approved for the same amount next time. I can only assume that kind of shit is widespread. There really isn't a reasonable justification for how much money we spend on our military.

Yes it is. That's why zero based budgeting is the only way to end government waste.

Really? How undermanned were those DDGs? What was the Ship's Manning Document as opposed to how many were on board?
