Rand Paul now says he will vote for Pompeo in Committee.
I imagine he heard that at least 3 dems are going to vote for Pompeo
in the Senate's regular vote. Manchin from WV...the gal from No Dak and the guy from Indiana. They have no choice but to support Pompeo. That or

Trump needs to run essentially a shadow DoS, as did Nixon and Reagan. Let DoS have all the ambassador/visa stuff, but actual policy goes through a Kissinger like Nixon. Reagan had an array of advisors starting with Richard Allen who had been around for years, then William Clark who'd been his exectutive secretary. They owned Reagan alliegience and carried out the Reagan doctrine. In the second term, some BushI guys came in and old cold warriors. Including Casey. The problem is that Trump is a for policy neophyte, who has no clue about the Iran deal, Russia or NK. Tillerson at DoS was perfect in terms of demoralizing the DoS, but without a Kissinger or Reagan doctrine .... the emperor is naked.
But yeah nat, one way or another, they'll find a way to get Popmpeo in. The alternative is too scary to contemplate.
