Politifact, a project of the Tampa Bay Times, will launch a new website dedicated to reviewing claims by pundits on radio, television and the blog world. The project is funded by $625,000 in two-year grants from the Ford Foundation and the Democracy Fund. Seed money was provided by Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist. The operation will have a staff of journalists researching claims and rating them according to their "Truth-o-Meter" and will be called "Pundit-Fact"
"Pundits on TV and radio, as well as bloggers and columnists, are prominent voices in our political discourse, yet sometimes they blur the lines between opinion and fact," said Neil Brown, editor and vice president of the Times. "Now we will hold them accountable, much as weve done with politicians."
Newmark, founder of Craigslist said "I just want news I can trust, and PunditFact is a real contribution in the direction of trustworthiness and accountability." Politifact routinely spins its analyses to benefit leftist politicians.
