Pew: Americans giving up on God, miracles

look, i don't give a fuck that we don't agree about this...the important thing is that we both like Wonderful Donald! let's not let petty disagreements disunite us!

is disunite a word?

god doesn't exist. if he did, people wouldn't die when they're 6 months old of diseases....if there were actually a god...and lets people die in syria...he's the cruelest motherfucker i have ever seen!

you're on the ropes now!

You refuse to believe in God because you cannot answer how God could allow suffering. Simple as that.

And until God explains that to you, you are too proud to look further --- and apparently too good for God as well.

I cannot answer why God allows suffering, but neither can I deny His existence and the empirical evidence that He exists. So I will not tell him to get out of my face because I am not happy with how he set up this life. I will tell Him THANK YOU for giving me life and for giving me eternal life. Our time on earth is a trial. Our sadness on earth is but for a moment compared to eternity. Jesus suffered for our sins and selfishness. He asks us to carry our cross for others as well.

I'll say this, it is getting harder to figure out which natural disasters are god's punishment and which are god's 'hand'.

Floods you'd think are god's punishment per someone like Pat Robertson. Of course you then have the weekend warrior 'preachers' who see floods as god's way of embarrassing the President on the golf course.

That god, he/she is a busy bee. Floods, earthquakes, fires. Are these an act of god, or the devil, or physics? Why doesn't 'god' ever cause a flood to put out the forest fires? Seems like that would be a win win. Or an earthquake that opens up a big hole to drain off all the flood water before people get swept away, thus also quenching the building magma which will cause an earthquake.

If only god would multitask a little better. He helps someone catch a touchdown, then looks the other way when a serial killer grabs another child. He changes the light to green for some folks praying, but others praying for help under a collapsed building are not heard.

And maybe this it it. Once you watch these things over and over you see there is no pattern, no benevolent intelligence at work, just too much water in some places, not enough in other places, and a planet who's tectonic plates have been shifting for billions of years. And if the homeless person you see on the side of the road is going to get help then you are going to have to stop and help them.

And if the homeless person you see on the side of the road is going to get help then you are going to have to stop and help them.

Which is why God chose not to do it. He wants you to do it.

Suffering is terrible but it is not without purpose or virtue. It means far more to God to have someone respond to the needs of others and show their love for their fellow man, than it pleases Him just to place you in heaven with no mark of sacrifice, honor, or gratitude.

The reason there are terrible floods and wars is because mankind has sinned so greatly. The good suffer with the bad.

The reason all prayer is not answered as asked for, is because God is testing our faith. If we don't get what we demand do we say to heck with you God? Not exactly a person who really was a faithful believer or a grateful servant in the first place apparently.

The reason some prayers are answered in miraculous ways is to bolster the faith of those who honor God and to challenge the skeptics.

What disagreement? The great majority of Americans dislike Donald. The great majority of Americans believe in God.
Those are facts.

Great news that we get another confirmation these are the last days.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

I agree! Great news that these are the last days of your silly fantasy religion. Suck it. People are getting smarter. The fraud doesn't sell as well to the well informed. You can't scare people about them dying anymore. They are going to die anyway and you have never provided a witness, a single one that can guarantee your stupid idea of heaven. And NO your two thousand year old fairy tale about Jesus doesn't cut it. Today's viewer needs a video, not some crappy chisel marks on a couple of flat rocks.

Just think of it as less bullshit floating around. THAT HAS to be a good thing.

The OP is a fib. 80% of Americans are churched in one fashion or another. Pew is talking about those Americans who are unchurched, and that is only about 1/2 of them, which is about 10% of the American population.

Still, a growing segment of the population. This can't happen fast enough. The less influence religion and the religious have on OUR politics the better. The overly religious ruined the GOP. Maybe it can make a comeback if they start talking actual conservative sense again and drop all that silly religious crap.

Yes, it will be great. No more people volunteering to help flood and fire victims, no housing, feeding and educating the poor of the world. Simply glorious.

Pew: Americans giving up on God, miracles - Tea Party News
I am not sure what to say any longer myself? People see no sign of God? Seriously? Only those who do not seriously seek to know can claim they see no sign. You want a sign? Go read in depth about Fatima 1917 and explain how 3 shepherd children can say on July 13 the Virgin Mary said a great sign will happen on October 13 for all to see and know my words are from God. Then go read about the miracle on Oct 13 that all 70,000 present saw for themselves and fell on their knees. Then tell me it's a hoax. - - - -- How many miracles does God have to perform before you believe? I guess it is always one more than already manifested.

PS -- 80% of those excuses for not believing or practicing were either selfish or lazy or of weak reason. In other words, pathetic. (imo)

Another way to look at it is if you WANT to see something badly enough your mind will be convinced it is so.

If you have a hammer in your hand , everything looks like a nail.

Thousands of years ago men believed the universe revolved around the earth. Why? Because men had an exaggerated view of their own importance in nature. Begrudgingly human beings have had to backpedal away from these ridiculous concepts that we are the center of the universe. The fantasy has been downsized. There are no miracles. Now it has been reduced to just an individual and his/her "personal" relationship with god. O how the mighty have fallen!

Keep it up! Smaller is better!

Baloney! People don't need some wacky fantasy excuse to be good. That argument won't save your god.

I must have missed the gay pride, BLM and socialist trucks bringing in supplies and tractors alongside the Christian charity trucks.

We see wacky weatherman on the far side of the Godists and Huggy on the other far side.

Guys, both of you are rejected by mainstream beliefs.

Americans believe, 4 out of 5.

Oh, separation of state and church is a fact, whether or not the Founders intended such.

State cannot influence religion in any way shape or form. It's crystal clear. It is in the constitution. The church's inability to influence state is the fantasy of non-thinkers. If religious people get elected then religion will influence the state. That's just simple critical thinking skills.

That has to rank as the most pathetic defense ever for someone who doubts God's existence. And, yes, I have heard it a hundred times before.

But do get back to me when you can offer a "scientific" explanation for what happened at Fatima on October 13, 1917. Don't forget... it did not "just happen." It was foretold 90 days in advance by three children none older than nine the exact day it would occur! But when 70,000 people on the rainiest of days saw this sun burst out and start to "dance" and shoot off multi colored rays and spin and defy cosmis laws --- and then turn blood red and charge the earth --- where 70,000 people started screaming --------------- well, so what hey? No big deal. Like the top poster said "it's a hoax."
And you and he and those like you are the ones who have the gall to laugh at us??? : D You have nothing to refute that.

It doesn't matter who founded the Red Cross. That is a "stupid" statement with no relevance to it's operation today..

Link where FEMA response has been hindered by budget cuts.

Again, where are the homosexual groups in Louisiana? Athiest groups? BLM? Where are those 18 wheelers and tractors and tons of supplies alongside the Christians?

Game Over.
