Most of those graduating from high school and college have little or no financial education. Banks, credit card companies and other institutions prey upon young people, with dazzling ad's, which saddle these folks with debts they cannot repay. In addition, most young people have no clue how to set up a budget, a savings program, or other tools on how to run a household. Maybe in addition to cake baking and nutritional requirements, it's high time to put some economics into home economics classes.

I do agree it should be part of High School curriculum. The school both our kids went to has a mandatory one semester Consumer Education course where they teach things like budgeting and check book balancing.

Public education is all by corporate design

Keep them focused on the billions of pronouns the state creates to teach them and have them all spend hundreds of thousands for a degree in basket weaving, cuz its fun as society owes them a living wage.

It's called the DNC utopia.

Absolutely. Half a year of personal economics, half a year of macroeconomics.

It's stupid that this stuff isn't CORE.

More than likely they shame the white kids for being able to have a checking account as where the black kids are the victims that the white kids should be giving money to.

That would be my guess as to what the gist of the class is all about.

The average 18-29 year-old carries less CC debt than their parents....I guess because their parents are still supporting half of them....Likely servicing their CC debt too.

And you would be wrong, but then you are used to that.

With the US spending more on education than any country on earth, and a math and science rating around 40th in the world, it would appear they are teaching something other than what they should be.

Just say'in.

The Leftist asshats are doing a fine job!

Does no good if you have socialists and Keynesians teaching it or supplying the textbooks.

I agree that people need to study economic theory but if you're reading and learning from the wrong books, it's counterintuitive.

OK - enough with the partisan political jabs. Personal finance affects everyone.

These people live in a 100% partisan world. There is nothing in their life they can separate from it.

It is a sad way to live, but they do seem to enjoy it

Everyone: Leave the kids alone! You're not their parents! Get back to basics: reading, writing, 'rithematic!

Also everyone: But teach them how to balance a checkbook, make a budget and stick to it and all about household finances too!

Do not wonder why we have a teacher shortage.

Let's tac on to this, US Gov't history, purpose, function and citizen responsibility while focusing on the differences between federal and state gov't.

It doesn't take too much education" to realize that you should not spend more than yo make.

Personal finance is nothing but math and simple math at that.

Why do you keep saying that Reading, Writing, and Math are not part of the basics?
