I remember in the 2008 presidential race many candidates campaigned on this issue. Ralph Nader, Ron Paul, Cynthia McKinney, and Dennis Kucinich, for example. All of then slimed out of the race by the Military Industrial Complex.

The idea being that all of the money we spend to maintain infrastructure would stay in country. All of the money our troops spend over there would be spent here. There would be no need to produce the arms we send there.

It would be a multi billion dollar per year "stimulus package" for our economy that would not cost us any extra money.
