As I approached retirement from the military at the decrepit age of 38, I was sent to a class which was supposed to prepare us for the transition to civilian life. There were classes on writing a resume, and classes on how to do a job interview, even a class on how to "dress for success".

There was also a class which explained our medical benefits and so forth.

But then there was also a class which taught us how to game the system so we could claim disability. The way the guy put it was that over 20 years our eyesight and hearing were not what they were when we were 18, which is when we joined the military.

For most of us, that is just the normal process of aging and had nothing to do with our military service and its hazards.

Doesn't matter. Everyone in the class, except me, filled out a disability application.


This is extremely common.

And I am sure that military vets are not the only ones taking advantage.
