Party of the Rich: In Congress, It's the Democrats

Republicans are the party of the rich, right? It's a label that has stuck for decades, and you're hearing it again as Democrats complain about GOP opposition to raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment benefits.

But in Congress, the wealthiest among us are more likely to be represented by a Democrat than a Republican. Of the 10 richest House districts, only two have Republican congressmen. Democrats claim the top six, sprinkled along the East and West coasts. Most are in overwhelmingly Democratic states like New York and California.

1. As of 2009, the financial assets of the 115 major tax-exempt foundations of the Left add up to $104.56 billlion. Not only is this total not less than the financial assets of the 75 foundations of the Right, it was more than ten times greater!

a. Bradley, Olin, Scaife, the “Big Three” conservative foundations, not one has assets exceeding $1 billion. (Olin has been defunct since 2005).

i. Scaife Foundation has assets totaling $244 million.
ii. Bradley Foundation, $623 million.

b. Fourteen progressive foundations do, including Gates, Ford, Robert Wood Johnson, Hewlett, Kellogg, Packard, MacArthur, Mellon, Rockefeller, Casey, Carnegie, Simons, Heinz, and the Open Society Institute.

i. Ford alone has 16 times what Bradley has.
ii. Soros has claimed that he has donated over $7 billion to his Open Society organizations.
iii. The leading Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, $33 billion.
“The New Leviathan,” David Horowitz and Jacob Laksin

2. With over $100 billion in tax-exempt assets at their disposal, left-wing foundations have been able to invest massively greater amounts in their beneficiary groups. Ford gave more in one year than Scaife in 40!

a. “By compiling a computerized record of nearly all his contributions over the last four decades, The Washington Post found that Scaife and his family's charitable entities have given at least $340 million to conservative causes and institutions… The Ford Foundation gave away $491 million in 1998 alone.”

You'd think it was the dems that gave the rich that $3 trillion tax break, with this cons propaganda. Taking people for chumps only works on morons, like P.C.. Credibility and integrity are not in your vocabulary. You might as well wear a sign around your neck that says, "I'm a complete idiot, and proud of it."

I don't know. I think we've been played for the last two elections. The media has had us totally brainwashed.

Hey idiot, the fully Dem controlled Congress and Obama refused to raise taxes when they were in total power in 2009.

They are the "Obama Tax cuts" now, not the Bush tax cuts.

What a surprise, Dems have been lying their asses off about who is the "Party of the Rich" and who really represent middle class America.

So, is the Right now against rich people?
BTW, Issa is the wealthiest person in Congress.

I work for employers who travel the world seven times a year or more.
They basically get whatever they want. If they don't get what they want, they usually ask us to go out and get it for them.
Who runs this country? The rich or the poor? If you want a view portrayed on t.v., do you think advertising dollars have something to do with it? In some ways, "yes".
Is there a poor person in congress? No. They all get salaries, they usually are people propelled by law firms or companies.

So basically, if you are rich enough, you can attack your opponent for being rich and never pay nearly enough because being rich means that you get what you want.

They're kind of like one of our city councilmen. He paved the way for apartments to be built where there is an island and the inland was six feet under water. We called his office to complain but this is a politician who runs on a platform that claims to care about our town so if it floods bad enough, some people are going to lose their lives but he cares about our town.

The rich who run for office are hypocrites. They will blame the other party for being rich but yet not pay their share. The health care system is still making you pay. Some companies make people pay $30 for their health care but self insured individuals have to pay more for their health coverage. The poor pay all and you think that this health care was for poor people. The rich aren't paying for it. You are paying to help them out. That is what your taxes are for.

Raising taxes during the worst two years of the worst economic recession since the 1930's probably wouldn't be a wise decision.

If you ONLY blame the republicans then you have a very myopic view. The budget that Paul Ryan just proposed widened the tax base (ie: makes more people pay), but it reduces the "loopholes" that the wealthy use to get out of paying their taxes.

While the Repubs want to reduce the "official" tax rate for the rich, it is the Dems who fight to keep all of the tax loopholes that allow many wealthy, and companies, to avoid taxes.

Look at the Kennedy's. When Jackie died, the Kennedy's somehow managed to have her estate go through probate in FLORIDA, where there is no estate tax, vice in Mass where there is a 50% estate tax.

Then look at John Kerry's boat...where does it tie up at? Rhode Island. Why? To avoid taxes.

These are all "loopholes" that wealthy liberal dems used to avoid paying taxes. How about we go with the Ryan plan that makes everyone pay a little, and ALL the wealthy pay a lot more?

Why not? According to liberals that will solve all of our economic woes.

The economy isn't much better than it was in 2009, so why are liberals still bitching about tax rates? I also don't hear a lot of D-bags calling for higher taxes as an issue for the next election cycle, because they know they'll lose.

SCOTUS just ruled that the rich can buy the government with unlimited campaign donations. Cons are all for it, liberals are not. How's that if liberals are the party of the rich? Caught in another con lie.
