Exactly what is an "assault style weapon" ? The only weapons I know of that would be considered "assault weapons" are the ones I fired while serving in the Army. For a civilian to own one is very expensive and a pain in the ass process. If there are any legal conversion kits that turn a semi-automatic weapon into a full auto you would still have to go through that pain in the ass process.

As far as I know no legally owned fully automatic weapon has been used in a mass shooting,

That’s not going to solve the problem. Guns are a means. The same lack of permanent accountability and lack of empathy are root causes for school shoot ups, kinife atracks, bombs, etc.

Taking away guns will not be the end of story. It will mean shifting the balance to the illlegal gun holders already creating violence as well as force the violent youths to be more creative with bombs, kinives, black market guns, homemade guns, poison.

Attending school needs to be treated more as a right and less as a privilege until youths and their parents take control of bullying, less violence against teachers, and multi factor based profiling of students who represent a threat.
