""Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry.""
- President Roosevelt

First Federal Minimum Wage was 25 cents and hour, and was to eliminate child labor and exploitation.

" I wish you could do something to help us girls....We have been working in a sewing factory,... and up to a few months ago we were getting our minimum pay of $11 a week... Today the 200 of us girls have been cut down to $4 and $5 and $6 a week.

To a reporter's question, the President replied, "Something has to be done about the elimination of child labor and long hours and starvation wages." "

U.S. Department of Labor -- History -- Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938

"The minimum wage of $1.60 an hour in 1968 would be $10.90 today when adjusted for inflation"
Amount With Inflation Raise The Minimum Wage

"The minimum wage should have reached $21.72 an hour in 2012 if it kept up with increases in worker productivity, according to a March study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research. While advancements in technology have increased the amount of goods and services that can be produced in a set amount of time, wages have remained relatively flat, the study points out."
Minimum Wage Would Be 21.72 If It Kept Pace With Increases In Productivity Study

When the minimum wage was first enacted, there was much screeching about how it would be the ruin of our economy. It had the opposite effect.

Every time it has been raised, more screeching and very little national effect while helping the working poor.

Dollars and Addendums

This is a complicated issue, since regulation by the government feels like a form of socialism.

However, it's difficult to talk about social equity in a capitalist system without thinking about the merits of minimum wage --- it protects both the employee and the employer and saves a lot of time and money otherwise lost with useless quarrels or tedious negotiations.

An ensured minimum wage feels sort of like a type of social security, very loosely speaking.

When American networks broadcast programs targeted to the rich, programs such as the storied Kentucky Derby, it must account for the lifestyle requisitions of all classes since the government professes a preference for meritocracy-based economics.

Maybe Green Arrow (DC Comics) is America's version of Robin Hood...

The beauty of capitalism is that it forces business to pay the highest wage possible or go bankrupt as it loses its best workers to those who can pay more. This is why a good athlete makes $10 million a season.

The real beauty of capitalism is that it allows employers to classify human beings as commodities that are highly manipulated.

too stupid and liberal, show me an employee so manipulated that he wont quit his job for a better higher paying job.

Under liberalism employees were commodities and 120 million slowly starved to death.

So which 'highly paid jobs' are you writing of?

You're stating that 120 million Americans died due to liberalism?

Moral capitalism.

Any entertainer can make great money if they can pack the house, however most that make the big bucks works percentages of sales, so using the 'athlete' example is deceptive.

why deceptive?? Derek Jeter makes more than a minimum wage worker because employer is forced to pay for his skills
