Oregon imposes gag order on Christian bakers in gay wedding case

You mean the new United Socialist States of America. Just picking up where USSR left off...
Nope. These are well-established laws. If you bake cakes, serve one, serve all. It's not complicated, and it's business, not faith.
Curious,
How do you feel about the network pulling the Dukes of Hazzard reruns off the air because of the confederate flag being painted on the car.
Welcome to capitalism. Very few want bad press, it's hard on the bottom line. You like capitalism, right?
why shouldn't that same choice be available to a Christian baker? Do you think someone should win a lawsuit over the Dukes being pulled because of a symbol that is offensive to some, or do you think that in a capitalist way the network should have the say in how they present themselves.
The network is doing what is best for business. Had Melissa done that, she would still be in business. That's capitalism, not faith...
Why can't Melissa as a business do what is best for her?

Had she done what was best, serve the public, she would not be in this mess. She tried to serve two masters, money and God, and fucked herself good in the process. When you open a business there are rules to follow, our rules, since without us you couldn't open the business in the first place. Business is not faith so don't confuse them.

These exercises are painful, but hopefully they will wake people up to the fact that economic freedom is fundamental, and inexorably linked to all the other freedoms we value. Refusing to do business with people or groups we find objectionable is one of the most important political statements an ordinary citizen can make. We shouldn't sacrifice our right to do that in the name of social engineering.

That's not working real well for them if you go read about the fans coming to Daytona this weekend. They are flying it in defiance of the PC police there. NASCAR just shot themselves in the foot by alienating the very core population group that watches them course anyone that watches NASCAR has realized how far down its fallen in past 10-15 years.

It's their call, and it's business, that's what they are. I'm sure the racists will be out with their flags in very large numbers as they don't respect anyone but themselves.

This was all hashed out in the other thread ...

the actual Final Order, which is here: http://www.oregon.gov/boli/SiteAssets/pages/press/Sweet Cakes FO.pdf

No the Kleins are not under any Gag Order.

What you are pointing to is actually Oregon Law that applies to all people who own public accommodations - and it dates back to a case 30 years ago where someone put up a sign saying "NO SHIRTS, SHOES, SERVICE, *******." (n-word)

The open-to-the-public businesses in Oregon can't put up a sign or advertise : "we discriminate" basically - Just as the law is titled:

Notice that discrimination will be made in place of public accommodation prohibited - 2013 Oregon Revised Statutes

Don't like it? Change the law.

Ore. Silences Bakers Who Refused to Make Cake for Lesbians

State of Oregon is turning into quite the liberal fascists totalitarian wet dream! Taxing drivers per mile, silencing dissent! Impressive and unconstitutional.

Oregon was lost to gays and extreme liberals 20 years ago, its a cesspool. They may as well rename it the state of San Francisco. The freaks held a 2,000 person bicycle ride through the city last week...buck ass naked, kids saw this depravity.

All they can't do - is what every other open-to-public place of accommodation must do in Oregon -- they can't advertise they will discriminate.

They can say anything about the gays being abominations (like Klein did when the woman and her mother were first at the bakery) or any damn thing they want about how much "teh gheys" being a pieces of shit, according to them - all they want.

They just can't put a sign in their business window or advertise they will discriminate against people based on sex, race...<see the list> etc....as it regards their public accommodation.

Aaron Klein *did* break the law - because he advertised he *will* discriminate.

It's good to see more awareness that freedom of speech, in particular freedom of political expression, is what's being sacrificed with these laws.
Welcome to the real world, where your Freedom of Speech can be very expensive.

A business decision that conservatives should praise as an example of how markets fix everything.

Did someone post the actual ruling so we can see how far from the truth this RW propaganda is?
Above.

And here, I pretty much killed yesterdays thread with this:

Don't break the law. Answers are here: Oregon imposes gag order on Christian bakers in gay wedding case US Message Board - Political Discussion Forum

They weren't. A civil suit is strongly in order to sue the gay couple for forcing another person to go against their religious beliefs. Slam dunk case.

Gotta own a business to "discriminate" against someone wanting to use your business. They no longer do own a business and haven't for a while so again its unconstitutional to try and stifle someone's first amendment rights. You liberal mini tyrants can wrap this in whatever pretty little bow that makes it easier for you to swallow or take up your ass fact remains its illegal to take away someone's first amendment right to free speech.

Just like liberals can't prove someone wrong just lie about what really happened! THEY OWN NO BUSINESS! If I say to you I won't serve you because you are a fag well guess what I can and will say that because I can and would do it if I owned a business or not.

To repeat: They can say all they want -- anytime, anywhere -- they are prohibited from saying they will discriminate on behalf of a place of PA.

The Final Order even bolded and underlined on behalf of a place of PA

Read what's after the part underlined in red too -- it only pertains to the business.

Read the damn Order. I gave you a link.

“This case is not about a wedding cake or a marriage,” Avakian wrote. “It is about a business’s refusal to serve someone because of their sexual orientation. Under Oregon law, that is illegal.”

Scumbag is a liar as well. I bet they served plenty of lesbian and homosexuals before they just refused to serve a WEDDING for homosexuals so no its not about their orientation but about their goal of redefining what marriage is,has been and always will be to NORMAL people. They got a good chance at getting this garbage ruling overturned...don't stop fighting!
You have a complaint about PA laws. What have you been doing to get rid of PA laws in your state?

NEWS: Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries has ruled that the owners of the ‘Sweet Cakes by Melissa’ bakery must pay $135,000 in damages for refusing to serve a same-sex couple in 2013.

A dispute that began in 2013 when the ‘Sweet Cakes by Melissa’ bakery in Gresham, Oregon, refused to provide a wedding cake to a same-sex couple has come to an end after the state’s Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) ruled that owners Melissa and Aaron Klein must pay damages totaling $135,000 to complainants Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer. A 2 July 2015 ruling [PDF] issued by the BOLI described the $135,000 as “damages, not fines or civil penalties”:

Under Oregon law, businesses cannot discriminate or refuse service based on sexual orientation, just as they cannot turn customers away because of race, sex, disability, age or religion.

The Oregon Equality Act of 2007 includes an exemption for religious organizations and schools, but does not allow private business owners to deny service and unlawfully discriminate against potential customers.

The BOLI press release reiterated that the damages awarded were neither punitive nor unusual for such claims:

The BOLI Final Order awards $60,000 in damages to Laurel Bowman-Cryer and $75,000 in damages to Rachel Bowman-Cryer for emotional suffering stemming directly from unlawful discrimination. The amounts are damages related to the harm suffered by the Complainants, not fines or civil penalties which are punitive in nature.

The Final Order notes that the non-economic damages are consistent with the agency’s previous orders, such as an earlier ruling against a Bend dentist In the Matter of Andrew W. Engle. In that case, BOLI awarded a Christian employee $325,000 in damages for physical, mental and emotion suffering due to religious discrimination and harassment.

After the press release was distributed, Melissa Klein published a Facebook status update reacting to the ruling and its provisions:

The final ruling has been made today. We have been charged with $135,000 in emotional damages, But also now Aaron has been charged with advertising. (Basically talking about not wanting to participate in a same-sex wedding) This effectively strips us of all our first amendment rights. According to the state of Oregon we neither have freedom of religion or freedom of speech. We will NOT give up this fight, and we will NOT be silenced. We stand for God’s truth, God’s word and freedom for ALL americans. We are here to obey God not man, and we will not conform to this world. If we were to lose everything it would be totally worth it for our Lord who gave his one and only son, Jesus, for us! God will win this fight!

In the ruling, Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian explicitly stated that Oregon laws prohibit refusal of service to protected classes for discriminatory reasons:

This case is not about a wedding cake or a marriage. It is about a business’s refusal to serve someone because of their sexual orientation. Under Oregon law, that is illegal.

Within Oregon’s public accommodations law is the basic principle of human decency that every person, regardless of their sexual orientation, has the freedom to fully participate in society. The ability to enter public places, to shop, to dine, to move about unfettered by bigotry.

The entire 60-page ruling can be read here [PDF], and portions of it pertain to whether the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa communicated an intent to persist in violating Oregon’s public accommodations law:

The lengthy ruling described incidents wherein the Kleins’ promotion of their plight resulted in negative attention and threats to the Bowman-Cryers (including Klein’s publication of court documents to Facebook that included the couple’s home address) and ordered the Kleins to cease offering any public suggestion that they might refuse service to same-sex couples in the future:
