The Washington Post got away with an unverified unidentified "source" for 30 freaking years until he died and couldn't verify his "reports" during the Woodward & Bernstein manufactured coup of Richard Nixon. W&B took a break for the next forty years even during the sex, drugs and rock&roll of the Clinton administration but they re-appear like freaking zombies when the crazy left started a modern coup on President Trump. I doubt if people are going to stand for scripted fiction from unidentified sources in the "age of information" but the hatred is insane out there so you never know.

And I'm pretty sure they did, with the idea that their credibility is important to them. Without commenting on what the 38% thinks is credible, the NYTimes is NOT failing and readership is even up.

I sure wish this writer had identified him/her-self. But as I think about it, I'm thinking I would probably NOT be that brave. This person will be flayed alive, and we both know that. Darkwind, anybody who completely trusts any President is mushy-brained IMHO. But I am genuinely concerned that the checks and balances ignored by a compliant Congress are being destroyed bit by bit. And that this is the primary agenda of this current admin, to gather power quietly but firmly. Especially noticeable is when he calls an Op-Ed against him "treason" when I always thought treason is the passing of important secret data to a foreign agency in order to weaken the nation. And Trump says that the op-ed is a threat to 'national security'. Or when he slimes Sessions for doing what is Constitutionally required of him, which he considers personally disloyal.

I know my intellectual limits, and would never say I am not wrong. But I'm also old and my formative years were during WWII. The horrors of those years, and how they came to be in so advanced a nation are still with me. It started small, it started by scapegoating and demonizing groups and feeding fear a little more each year, by gaining a little more admin power and a little more legislative acquiescence each year. No, I often don't think that democrats are the bastion of all that is evil. However, this particular OP/ED is just a bit to perfect with perfect timing for it to be an Administration insider.

However, there are so many reported bits of Trump's temper, of his pettiness to those he suspects of less than ultimate loyalty, his instinctive need to literally destroy anyone who opposes him thru lies and non-sourced rumor of his own making, if necessary. His defense of corrupters and corrupt practices is a negative too. Not to mention I think he is eyes-deep into his businesses and simply moonlighting as President, using the office for mere status and personal gain AND to feed his "I'm the Greatest" opinion of himself.

Darkwind, I have to disagree. News outlets are supposed to vet NEWS items, but op-ed is not a news item. However the Editorial board of each news outlet does determine what gets printed. And I'm pretty sure they did, with the idea that their credibility is important to them. Without commenting on what the 38% thinks is credible, the NYTimes is NOT failing and readership is even up.

I sure wish this writer had identified him/her-self. But as I think about it, I'm thinking I would probably NOT be that brave. This person will be flayed alive, and we both know that. Would you claim authorship in your own name of a piece like this when you don't even reveal your name on your opinions here? I think I'm too chicken. Anyway, if this person feels the need to expose this admin like this, where would they go? Think about it...McConnell? Nunes? Ryan? SCOTUS? The Old Gray Lady was about the only choice.

Darkwind, anybody who completely trusts any President is mushy-brained IMHO. But I am genuinely concerned that the checks and balances ignored by a compliant Congress are being destroyed bit by bit. And that this is the primary agenda of this current admin, to gather power quietly but firmly. Especially noticeable is when he calls an Op-Ed against him "treason" when I always thought treason is the passing of important secret data to a foreign agency in order to weaken the nation. And Trump says that the op-ed is a threat to 'national security'. Or when he slimes Sessions for doing what is Constitutionally required of him, which he considers personally disloyal.

I know my intellectual limits, and would never say I am not wrong. But I'm also old and my formative years were during WWII. The horrors of those years, and how they came to be in so advanced a nation are still with me. It started small, it started by scapegoating and demonizing groups and feeding fear a little more each year, by gaining a little more admin power and a little more legislative acquiescence each year. Hence my distrust at the disemboweling of the several defense organizations. It scares me, darkwind.

Well, I would ask you to consider two important items.

1. Those who claim Trump are corrupt cannot provide any verifiable proof of such a claim which leads to those who are trying to overthrow his legally elected administration as traitors.

2. Where were you when Clinton, Bush, and Obama were radically consolidating power into the office of President. There was a time in the late 80's and early 90's when Democrats rejected a unitarian president. Now they embrace such a notion as long as that president is a progressive.
