Olympic 2016 : News & Discussion

The olympics should either only be held in a few places or not at all.

No reason to have the olympics in these countries that can't even sort themselves out.

US, Europe, Russia, Canada, Australia.

Is there any need to have the olympics anywhere else?

Well, thank you for chiming in with your "valuable" opinion! However, did you know that Russia was in Europe?

Team USA is playing its best hockey right now on the world's biggest stage......

Isn't that in the Winter Olympics?

That is Ice Hockey :)

If you just say "hockey" everyone in the US and Canada will assume you are referring to the ice type. You need to specify 'field' for the kind where girls in skirts smash each other with sticks.

The actual convention is that hockey means field hockey and ice hockey means the hockey where guys pull each other's teeth out. But yes, in the U.S. (and may be Canada), it is the opposite.

I think the rest of the world including Olympic refers to "field hockey" as hockey.

The rest of the world is irrelevant.

Isn't that technically Eurasia? Russia is weird because of their size.

6 pictures that show Katie Ledecky's 800-meter freestyle dominance

Good lord look at the images of Ledecky in the 800m. Super human.

Look at this! Katy Ledecky waited almost 12 seconds until the 2nd place swimmer touched. Not even Phelps has ever been that dominant.

Very hard to believe, I mean this IS against all the other best in the world swimmers. This IS the Olympics.

Phenomenal.

Yes it is.... Quite amazing.

Fair enough.

In the men’s category, Srikanth outplayed Henri Hurskainen of Sweden 21-6, 21-18 in his group H preliminaries encounter. The only Indian to qualify in the men’s singles event had previously beaten Lino Munoz of Mexico 2-0 in his campaign opener. In a lop-sided first game, the Kidambi got off to a brilliant start as he raced away with a 11-2 lead with some solid net play and cross-court smashes before wrapping up the first game in his favour.
The second game was an example of Srikanth’s tenacity and patience. By virtue of his exceptional defensive skills, the Sweden player managed to stay in touch with the Indian. After few exchanges till the mid-half of the second game, the Indian shuttler showed some good skills with the combination of his diagonal shot and down the line smashes to take a 18-15 lead. In the last few points, there was stiff competition but Srikanth overpowered his opponent to clinch the issue comfortably.

Ryan Lochte held up at gunpoint in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO — Ryan Lochte and three other U.S. swimmers were held up at gunpoint early Sunday morning.

Reached by USA TODAY Sports on Sunday morning, his mother Ileana Lochte said that her son was robbed but is unharmed.

“I think they’re all shaken up. There were a few of them,” Ileana Lochte said. “No, they were just, they just took their wallets and basically that was it.”

Patrick Sandusky, spokesman for the U.S. Olympic Committee, released a statement with details of the incident, although an International Olympic Committee spokesman initially called reports of the incident "absolutely not true."

The countries at the top of the medals tables are the countries that throw the most money at it.

The best cyclist/rower/yachtsman in the world lives in Chad but he, or she, has never been able to try those sports.

The Olympics reflects the inequality in the world.

Having said that Wales are having the best Olympics ever, ensuring renewed calls for Team Cymru at the next Olympics.

Shut the heck up with this nonsense. Just because individual achievement is welcomed by some nations over others isn't holding anyone back in Chad. Plenty of these athletes from these deadbeat 3rd world countries go to 1st world countries to train and live.

Nobody gives a damn how Chad does in the olympics. Really nobody cares how chad the nation does as a country either.

If you can buy a medal it is devalued.
