Obamas heading to Hawaii "Winter White House"

Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.
He had apparently been handpicked after the President had tasted his pizzas on the campaign trail last autumn.

Ok so now we have the "People's President" excluding others from his kids' private schools who eats $50/lb steak during a recession and fly in a chef 860 miles to make a pizza very non-elitist indeed

I think a President's child(ren) should attend a secure private school, or be privately tutored in the WH.

The pizza guy paid his own way and brought his own ingredients.

mental_floss Blog » Who Pays for the Obama Family’s Food?

Like all presidents, Barack Obama and his family will have to pay for their own food while they’re living in the White House. But does someone actually send them a bill? How does this system work?

President Obama may have his own executive chef now, but when his family and personal guests eat what’s coming out of the kitchen, he’ll have to foot the bill himself. Luckily for him, though, the government picks up the tab if he’s having a state function at the White House, which could get pricey since the White House’s website touts that its five chefs can crank out dinner for 140 or hors d’oeuvres for over a thousand people.

Does someone really keep track? Apparently, the White House functions like a luxury hotel in this regard. At the end of each month, the president receives a bill for his food and incidental expenses. Nancy Reagan was famously taken aback by this practice when an usher presented her first bill in 1981, saying, “Nobody ever told us the president and his wife are charged for every meal, as well as incidentals like dry cleaning, toothpaste, and other toiletries.” (Once they got used to the bills, though, the Reagans loved the White House; President Reagan often joked that all the amenities made it like living in an eight-star hotel.)

The president and his family get to pick what snacks they want, what brand of toothpaste they use, and what menu they want the chef to prepare for them, but it can still get a bit pricier than new commanders in chief expect.

In a fascinating article in this month’s National Geographic, former White House chief usher Gary Walters said that he couldn’t remember any first families not complaining about the high prices of the food. Walters added that Rosalynn Carter was particularly miffed by the high-priced fare, which must have been a bit more expensive than what she’d been getting in Georgia.

-------

Oh and by the way, in case you’re wondering.. the outgoing president pays to move his stuff out of the White House.. and the incoming President pays to move his belongings to Washington DC. The first family also pays for its own food. These are the little things you learn from a man who worked as the White House Usher for more than 20 years.

I wish you'd learn how to work the quote function...

Sommers paid his own way, and the taxpayers did not pay for the meal :)

Sure- but think of it as "green" it is to save bandwidth :eusa_angel:

I wish some on the left would admit that most politicians are elitists, including this one

Define "elitist".

Eating expensive steaks? So what? He's paying for it, not us.

Truth is the worst enemy of the left

How about

Obama is no more or no less elitist than Bush

Define "elitist".

It already has back in the postings

So since you are unsure of what elitist means then is it safe to assume
you do not consider Bush elitist?

You're the one making the claim. If you can't define it, there's nothing I can do about that...

It has been defined already. You just refuse to look it up.

Why should I partake in your obvious avoidance to answer the question

Which only helps to support the statements:

Truth is the worst enemy of the left
Obama is no more or no less elitist than Bush

(your avoidance is the only answer we need)

This?

one who advocates elitism
a person who is or who believes himself or herself to be a member of an elite group

Do you not consider a US President a "member of an elite group"?

While you're at it, define "elitism".

It has been and the point still stands:

Obama is no more or no less elitist than Bush

Nothing has been offered by you to show this false

I absolutely refuse to bow down and worship the Democratic "messiah". The fact that he and his devilish minions act as if I should is elitism at its worst.

The office of the President of the United States of America is something that deserves respect. Not all men who have held that office deserve respect. A respectable leader does not expect those whom he leads to follow. He earns their respect and then they follow.

Whether or not President Obama will earn respect is still up in the air.

In my book President Clinton earned respect by the time he left office. Regardless of the scandalous affairs, the job he did as President was decent in that he did what he needed to do and no more.

President George W. Bush lost my respect by the time he left office. As far as I was concerned he did his best to shred the Constitution and got us into two Viet Nams. A war on terrorism would be a respectable thing, but he screwed that up as well.

Your "badgering" can not hide your inability or unwillingness to agree or disagree with the statement :

Obama is no more or no less elitist than Bush

I still stand with this statement not shown to be false

Your lack of agreement or disagreement points to the answer of a different question

Why are you afraid to answer it?

It seem obvious to all- why you won't
