Here's a snapshot look at Obamacare after 3 years. The result is decidedly mixed.

Obamacare's 3rd anniversary: By the numbers | wtsp.com

Two things leap out at me:

1. The government has to do a really better job of selling this program and informing potential customers. Due to the complexity of the law, too few people know how it will affect them and for them not to know after 3 years is inexcusable.

2. The GOP needs to get off their all or nothing position and start helping to make it better. If they had waded in to help correct what's wrong with Obamacare 3 years ago, instead of pretending they can kill it totally, how much better off would we be right now?

Study: Health overhaul to raise claims cost 32 pct
Mar 26,`13 WASHINGTON (AP) -- Insurance companies will have to pay out an average of 32 percent more for medical claims on individual health policies under President Barack Obama's overhaul, the nation's leading group of financial risk analysts has estimated.
That's likely to increase premiums for at least some Americans buying individual plans. The report by the Society of Actuaries could turn into a big headache for the Obama administration at a time when many parts of the country remain skeptical about the Affordable Care Act. While some states will see medical claims costs per person decline, the report concluded the overwhelming majority will see double-digit increases in their individual health insurance markets, where people purchase coverage directly from insurers. The disparities are striking. By 2017, the estimated increase would be 62 percent for California, about 80 percent for Ohio, more than 20 percent for Florida and 67 percent for Maryland. Much of the reason for the higher claims costs is that sicker people are expected to join the pool, the report said.

The report did not make similar estimates for employer plans, the mainstay for workers and their families. That's because the primary impact of Obama's law is on people who don't have coverage through their jobs. The administration questions the design of the study, saying it focused only on one piece of the puzzle and ignored cost relief strategies in the law such as tax credits to help people afford premiums and special payments to insurers who attract an outsize share of the sick. The study also doesn't take into account the potential price-cutting effect of competition in new state insurance markets that will go live on Oct. 1, administration officials said.

At a White House briefing on Tuesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said some of what passes for health insurance today is so skimpy it can't be compared to the comprehensive coverage available under the law. "Some of these folks have very high catastrophic plans that don't pay for anything unless you get hit by a bus," she said. "They're really mortgage protection, not health insurance."

A prominent national expert, recently retired Medicare chief actuary Rick Foster, said the report does "a credible job" of estimating potential enrollment and costs under the law, "without trying to tilt the answers in any particular direction." "Having said that," Foster added, "actuaries tend to be financially conservative, so the various assumptions might be more inclined to consider what might go wrong than to anticipate that everything will work beautifully." Actuaries use statistics and economic theory to make long-range cost projections for insurance and pension programs sponsored by businesses and government. The society is headquartered near Chicago.

Kristi Bohn, an actuary who worked on the study, acknowledged it did not attempt to estimate the effect of subsidies, insurer competition and other factors that could mitigate cost increases. She said the goal was to look at the underlying cost of medical care. "Claims cost is the most important driver of health care premiums," she said. "We don't see ourselves as a political organization," Bohn added. "We are trying to figure out what the situation at hand is."

Good point. Instead of the "all or none" strategy they could have spent the LAST THREE YEARS trying to improve it. Instead they want to go back to the Insurance Companies making all of your decisions and rejecting anyone they don't want to cover.

But alas, they did not and Obama was overwhelmingly re-elected (in part to Obamacare), and the SCOTUS has said it is Constitutional. It is now the law of the land and here to stay.

So it's time they get to work and do what they were elected to do. Try and improve it and stop acting like a bunch of TP controlled whiny assed crybabies.

3 years ago, nobody even knew what was in it. And you expect the Republicans to have "corrected what's wrong with it"?

Great point. As that nutjob Pelosi said, it had to be passed before anyone could see what was in it. I really don't think half of congress knows what's in it to this day.

You can't fix stupid. Obamacare is a disaster and there is no fixing it. The Dems decided to force people into something with phony promises all because maybe 5 million people who wanted insurance couldn't afford it. There should have been a much less oppressive way to handle that, like put those people on Medicaid. I don't know why they weren't on it anyway since they should have qualified. I bet most people who will be helped by this are illegals.

There was no reason to add 29 new taxes in the health care law. And the government has no fucking business having real time access to our bank accounts. It's none of their damn business how much money we have. We all know politicians are like drug addicts and can't keep their hands off money when they see it. I believe they'd love to tax our savings accounts. Why just tax income one time, why not go back and do it again?

Obama said we could all keep our current care if we liked it. LIE. Obama said costs would go down. BIG LIE! Obama said a lot of things that were pure bullshit. Turns out people making waaaay under $250,000 are getting socked with higher taxes. And young people will pay through the nose for health insurance.

It's not about health care, which is why it can't be fixed. It's about government gaining more control over our lives and having the ability to take more of our money.

The only way to fix things is to repeal that shameless power grab by this administration.

Obama and congress are exempt, which tells you how shitty of a deal Obamacare is. If it's not good enough for those clowns, it's not good enough for America.

Obamacare bombs and it is incumbant on the people who warned us that it was going to bomb to keep the plan and "make it better?"

People aren't able to understand it. The average person did not understand what was in the US Constitution when it was ratified by the elites., :laugh2:

Popular democracy is stupid. Populism is for the birds

The GOP is trying it's best to make it bomb. They hate the idea of some people having access to health care. You know those 47% takers?

I see. Obamacare bombs and its the Republicans fault. Thanks for clearing that up. You know, this reminds me of another episode of American history that got blamed on Republicans.

Sebelius: Some Could See Insurance Premiums Rise.

Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius speaks about the federal health care overhaul during a news conference at City Hall, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in Philadelphia. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke)Some people purchasing new insurance policies for themselves this fall could see premiums rise because of requirements in the health-care law, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told reporters Tuesday.

Ms. Sebelius’s remarks come weeks before insurers are expected to begin releasing rates for plans that start on Jan. 1, 2014, when key provisions of the health law kick in. Premiums have been a sensitive subject for the Obama administration, which is counting on elements in the health law designed to increase competition among insurers to keep rates in check. The administration has pointed to subsidies that will be available for many lower-income Americans to help them with the cost of coverage.

The secretary’s remarks are among the first direct statements from federal officials that people who have skimpy health plans right now could face higher premiums for plans that are more generous. She noted that the law requires plans to provide better benefits and treat all customers equally regardless of their medical claims.

“These folks will be moving into a really fully insured product for the first time, and so there may be a higher cost associated with getting into that market,” she said. “But we feel pretty strongly that with subsidies available to a lot of that population that they are really going to see much better benefit for the money that they’re spending.”

I doubt they particularly care at this point. Most of them are content to believe their own lies about it. (Just see above: things like the "real time access to our bank accounts" and "Obama and congress are exempt" nonsense).

O.K., "conservatives"/Teabaggers....here's ANOTHER opportunity to point-out with WHICH parts of Obamacare you disagree!!!!!

(Please don't run-away, this time.)

:eusa_drool:With the over 2,000 pages of regulations they have added to it since then its going to take longer than 3 years to straighten out. I bet even Peelosi even gave up.
