Obama ... We Need to Overcome Our Religious Convictions?

Yup, Misty, wanting the same right to marry who they want, just like you, is shoving their beliefs down your throat. You are not stupid, but you act like you are.

Okay, here is the transcript from the White House. I will credit rightwinger for challenging me on this:

I know that Americans of goodwill continue to hold a wide range of views on this issue. Opposition in some cases has been based on sincere and deeply held beliefs. All of us who welcome today’s news should be mindful of that fact; recognize different viewpoints; revere our deep commitment to religious freedom.
But today should also give us hope that on the many issues with which we grapple, often painfully, real change is possible. Shifts in hearts and minds is possible. And those who have come so far on their journey to equality have a responsibility to reach back and help others join them

What Obama said that outraged conservatives

Opposition in some cases has been based on sincere and deeply held beliefs,” Obama said. “All of us who welcome today’s news should be mindful of that fact. Recognize different viewpoints. Revere our deep commitment to religious freedom.”

Sometimes there are days like this when that slow and steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt,” Obama said. Although the progress might have seemed slow to gay rights advocates, he added, the nation’s shift on same-sex marriage has been “so quick.”
“But today should also give us hope that on the many issues with which we grapple often painfully real change is possible,” the President continued.
“Shifts in hearts and minds is possible,” he said. “And those who have come so far on their journey to equality have a responsibility to reach back and help others join them. Because for all our differences, we are one people — stronger together than we could ever be alone.”
“That’s always been our story. We are big and vast, and diverse. A nation of people with different backgrounds and beliefs, with different experiences and stories, but bound by our shared ideal that no matter who you are, or what you look like, how you started off, or how and who you love — America’s a place where you can write your own destiny.”

Yeah I found it on the White House website also.... thank you though!

Religious people have no problem telling others about their whey of life. They are in yer face protagonist/propagandist that condemn people to Hell they don't even know..So if it's good enough for the geese, it's good enough fore the gander....

The problem with that one, do it at your own risk. Just hope it isn't me you goosing.
You are a troll not a threat.
Y

Shows how fucking stupid you are, like you have any idea about me.
Your words reveal you are harmless.

What do you find objectionable?

So the answer to my question in the Original Post is "yes" it was misquoted.
I figured as much when I could not find it on any major media source. I feel like writing the places that mis-represent what he said and telling them if they are operating under the name of Christ to please stop because it's a bad representation of Him.

What do you find objectionable?
That people are not falling in line with the Bible and religions....

Even with my support for gay marriage, I'll be damned before I'm told how to practice my faith.
No body is telling you, unlike the religious that tells others how to live theirs constantly...Have you read the Bible? There is nothing that isn't a sin...Even going to the bathroom can be a sin...

Nice words, but in reality it will not be debate, or discussion that will be the method used to change people's minds, it will be force, government force. It's the only tool progressives have, and they LOVE to use it.

What do you find objectionable?

It was well-written. But "shifts in hearts and minds" seems to be implying that we should all be happy about the ruling... and that eventually everyone else will "come around".... But like I said, his speech writer did a great job of walking the line.....

Roughly 93% of Americans believe in God.

There are 1.7% gays.

Obama is preaching to a very small percentage and it's a big mistake.

Nobody is telling me how to live. Why would that intimidate you? Tell em to fuck off.

Not really, because he has no reelection ahead. Unless Hillary the Hag suffers because of it.

BAKE THAT DAMN CAKE PEASANT!
baking cakes is not the problem, it's what you want decorated on top that is an issue...

Letting government decide who to punish for their religious convictions is the problem.
