You must listen to a lot of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, because they love to throw out this misleading statistic.

On the other hand, you might just be misinformed.

Did you realize that federal income tax is only one part of the tax burden of the average american citizen pays? In addition to the income tax, the Federal government levies a host of other forms of taxes and fees, including but not limited to payroll tax, gasoline tax, excise tax, and about ten billion types of fees and other revenue generating programs. On top of this, the average american pays a host of state and local taxes.

So, when you figure in all forms of federal taxes, plus state and local taxes, property taxes, and the myriad of fees that Feds, States, and cities levy, the middle class is shouldering the lions share of the burden.

I don't know why you're so desparate to give Paris Hilton larger, and more generous tax cuts than you and the rest of us working schmucks get under republican economic stewardship.

But, I guarantee you the Hilton family, and most the the super rich investor class is voting for their own interests. They mostly vote republican, in support of their own interests. If you want to vote against your own economic self interests, just because Rush Limbaugh has propogandized you, go for it. But, you should realize that you've been manipulated into voting against your interests by dishonest and misleading rightwing talk radio

yes, SS and Medicare are a big chunk but expalin to me why am I paying into s system that under the current adminstration and next if McCain wins probably won't even be there when I need in in 30 years?

Remove the cutoff limits for social security and medicade and all these problems go away, folks.

If the superrich want a viable consumer driven society to make them rich, they need to carry more of the costs of supporting one than they currently are.

The economy is already in the crapper because they aren't and the Republicans have shifted the burden of government onto the FUTURE.

And exactly how is it that the rich do not pay these taxes? Oh wait, they do.

Yes, it's harder on the middle class to pay these things. But again, the rich pay the same percentage on excises taxes, gasoline tax (which is a type of excise tax ), and state and local taxes as the middle class. Sure, it's HARDER for the middle class to pay this, but still, the amount is the same. If a billionaire buys a gallon of gas, and a bum buys a gallon of gas, they're paying the same amount of tax.

The rich also pay state and local taxes. They also pay FICA (and, if they own their own business and give YOU a paycheck, they pay it twice), up to a certain income level, which an income level that falls in the "middle class" range.

Limbaugh and Hannity are partisan hacks. I've never listened to more than one of their spiels. I'm a finance major, I've worked in finance for over 10 years. I know how taxes work. But, thanks for your attempt at a lecture.

Can not eliminate it now, to late. BUT you can , in fact, protect the money coming INTO the system, which is IN FACT what the Republicans have tried to do. The democrats will have no part of it.

Those funds are for a specific program and should not be used for ANYTHING else. If that had been the law, Social Security would be able to have more programs now and there would be no need for increasing the taxes for it.

But the Democrats just love to spend money. They did the same thing with the gasoline tax, which is for Road work, maintenance, improvement and new highways. they stole nearly half of it per year for awhile.

I totally agree. I think SS sold be cut out completely. People should take responsibility for their own retirement. That way, the government can't steal it like Bush did. Plus, it forces people to take some responsibility in their futures and learn about investments.

Try reading past your bias. Yes a conservative will in fact lead to less taxes , including on Social Security, they will stop stealing from Social Security so no need for more and more increases on taxes. Liberals are busy even as we type figuring out how to tax you more so they can SPEND more.

Even with the deficit Obama wants to create HUGE new Government programs that will cost even MORE money. Where do you think he plans to get it from?
