Obama: Jesus would support tax-the-rich policy

ahh.. but may we have abit of balance:

James 5
1Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

3Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

4Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

5Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

6Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

7Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

It appears that we have had more of the latter then the former.

So "who" does it say will be the one "judging" and executing the judgement?

Since some people like to quote Jesus for their own purposes. Not once did Jesus say anything about providing for lazy people. Lazy people would be those who do not work. He did however say to take care of the poor sick and elderly. Any of those three does not mean a person is lazy.

I agree. Any more questions. He also suggested that those of means and others live for justice mercy love and fairness. We are our brothers keeper. We are mandated to watch out for one another. We are commanded to "love our neighbor as ourselves". Can we do that when we try every means possible to escape taxation, to hold on with a tight fist every dollar as if we imagined that we somehow solely earned it ourselves?

Hegh, out next breath is not guaranteed. Who the hell do any of us think we are?

What did Joseph do during the seven years of plenty (in Egypt as Jacob's son)?

Yes, he was his brother's keeper and should have shown love and loyalty to him.

That was the whole point. The whole point of Jesus was love. The whole point of Jesus's message and sacrifice was love. To sacrifice oneself for the greater good of all.

Ya think some billionaire arguing that capital gains tax is in some perverted way double taxation is being your brother's keeper or is it just being Cain like?

NO WHERE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT DOES IT SPEAK OF THE GREATER GOOD OF "ALL".
This is an out and out falsehood. There are plenty of places where people are warned that everyone will not make it (because of their own choices). No where does it even remotely suggest that people should be forced to follow the Savior (He even tells people ... if you are lukewarm, I will spit you out). The apostles are directed to spread the "good news"; if a town rejects them, they are to shake the dust from their feet as they leave, and the Savior (no mention of the gov't) will deal with them.

In the Gospel of Matthew, a rich young man asks Jesus what actions bring eternal life. First Jesus advises the man to obey the commandments. When the man responds that he already observes them, Jesus adds:

If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.

The Gospel of Luke has a similar episode and states that:

When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Rich men can still enter heaven. All one has to do is accept Christ. Rich or poor. Ill or healthy. A runner or a lame man. An old man or a child. A woman or a man. And nothing we do in this lifetime counts on getting a ticket to heaven.

You miss the point entirely Chris.

It's called 3:16.
No, sadly, you miss the point if you fail to see this as an indictment on the rich.

Have you ever seen a text or passage of Scripture that reads anything like "blessed are the rich?"

No...you don't. However, there are tons of text, in red ink, aka said by Jesus Himself "Blessed are the poor, for they shall inherit the earth."

You see, tiny, what many modern-day USA Christians seem to forget is, this world is only temporary, God doesn't want us to get too comfortable here, we should be preparing for our home in Heaven...that's where our riches lie.

Nobody understands this like the poor. The Bible bears this out time and time, and time again.

When the people are blessed int the OT, it is thru gifts and wealth. The Savior never lectured Joseph of Arimethia (spelling) on the evil of his wealth (the man believed to have bought the tomb for the Lord). The Savior defended the woman that poured expensive oils on His head when the apostles were berating her for not giving that to the poor.

There will always be "poor" people. Hopefully, very soon, we will see an end to the scam artists that collect money that is meant for the "poor" and helpless. Those are the ones that should be receiving your scorn, but in true liberal/progressive/socialist/communist/homosexual activist/environmentalist wacko fashion, the law-abiding are targeted and the crimminals are held up as the great example.

Hey they are welcome to try Greece.

OH yell Greece another fine example of socialism gone bad. Thanks for pointing that out.

And capitalism gone bad destroyed the world economy in 2008.

So what's your point?

"...capitalism gone bad..."? No sir, regulations that protect bad capitalism gone bad, maybe, bailouts for poor choices, definitely. But capitalism with moral people is the most efficient system in the world, proven to work, time and time again.

Well you wanted other markets. Tell me where is a better market than the US?

I don't give a damn about company demands. They want to play in the best market then they should pay for the privilege and contribute to that market. F'n cheapskates.

If the left get's what they want there will not be a market here dumb ass. With a high capital gains tax more companies will leave America and more people will lose there jobs. America being the best market is irrelevant when no body is working because their are no jobs, there will not be a market here. And of course you'll blame Buooooosh

Actually higher capital gains taxes will encourage investors not to pull there money out of American companies.

Now there is an incentive to take profits as income because of the low tax rate.

Possibly, but will it encourage them to "invest" in new companies/ideas?

First off, the verse you are trying to quote is "Blessed are the poor in spirit," Even a progressive Christian should understand that is not talking about money, which means you are either deliberately misquoting Scripture, or you are an ignorant fool.

Do you really want verses that talk about the rich being blessed?

Ps 49:16
Pr 10:4,10,15,22

I seem to be having trouble finding the Scripture where Jesus condemned Joseph of Arimathaea, do you know where it is?

There is no special blessing in not having money, anymore than their is in having millions of dollars. The blessings of God are not temporal, nor are they temporary. Money, or the lack thereof, is a condition of this world, and has nothing whatever to do with your relationship with God.

I knew I'd catch a palooka....

Luke 6:20-26 said:
New International Version (NIV)
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.

21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.

23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.

24 “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.

26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

I'm not going to get into a senseless debate with a heathen who doesn't know the Bible from his big toe.

Carry on with your wrong self.

Maybe you could show where the Savior lectures Joseph of Arimethia (spelling) on "keeping" his wealth. Or you could provide evidence of where the Christ joins the apostles in berating the woman that was pouring expensive oils on him. Or maybe you can continue to stick with your pathetic one-liner that uses the Lord for "your" purposes, and not His.
Funny, you call me wrong, yet provide nothing to back it. Come one tough guy, show us how well "you" know the Bible.

Don't ever equate Obama and his policies with Christ.

It's appalling and disgusting to a Christian.
Yeah.....someone might start asking questions.....

"The lawsuit alleges that Paul Crouch Sr. obtained a $50-million Global Express luxury jet for his personal use through a "sham loan," and that TBN funds paid for a $100,000 motor home for dogs owned by his wife, Janice Crouch, a network director.

The suit also alleges that TBN bought residences across the country for its directors under the pretext that they were "guest homes" or "church parsonages." The properties include mansions used by the Crouch family in Newport Beach; side-by-side mansions in Windermere, Fla.; and homes in Nashville; Miami; and Irving, Texas, according to the suit.

TBN directors received about $300,000 to $500,000 in meal expenses and the use of chauffeurs, and oversaw "fraudulent donation and kickback schemes involving third party 'ministries'" the network controlled, the suit claims.

The directors also misused funds to cover up sexual scandals, the suit claims."

Yea, well just keep playing the "me" game, see where it gets you. Thanks Neotrotsky for reopening this thread, I missed it first time around.

Logical4U, thanks for your insight. Few will get it, even fewer will understand. :D

Yes the "intellectuals" really believe that Christians are just ignorant bumkins that have never made mistakes in their lives before doing some serious "soul-searching" and research to come to the conclusion that the Lord is the way to go.

They will tell us that "aliens" are mentioned in the book of Enoch without ever saying that they were the "angels" of the Lord. They will not mention that part of the punishment of the "fallen" was to be confined to this planet and that they could not be in the presence of the Lord, again; that when they were told this (the angels that had walked between earth and heaven and knew the Lord, and chose to subjugate man against the Lord's wishes), the "fallen" threw themselves on the ground, tore their clothes, clawed themselves, gnashed their teeth and cried for longing of the Lord.

They will falsely proclaim that there was a godess worshipped alongside the Lord in ancient times (when the Bible stories distinctly warn against the "high places" (where the godess was worshipped).

They will proclaim themselves the keepers of knowledge and science, and then ignore the Being that created the physical laws.

The "intellectuals" believe that religion is a way to manipulate people, not a wonderful way to live your life. Makes me wonder if they ever spent the time running their own life the way they try to run mine, if they might be happier people?

No, you miss the point.

Jesus told the young man to sell his possessions and give them to the poor.

ie...the Buffett Rule plus the earned income tax credit....

That was direction to one individual. Not to everyone.

Since when does Obama speak for Jesus ?

Oh wait...he doesn't.

You are to easy.

Beware the man who claims to know the mind of Jesus and that is any man Democrat, Republican, or anything in between.

If only the world were so simple.

They'll take flight and the number of good paying jobs will become even smaller.

Pretty soon, we will inherit the earth cause were all going to be poor.

The voice of all those who cry out that have honestly tried to work and pay their mortgage but who due to the trickery of Wall Street bubble makers were led to believe that the inflated prices that they paid for housing would somehow be real, justified and work out with better wages and increasing values were frankly deceived. They were Cained.

Yes, I recall watching a special on this. There were four examples of people who bought houses they HAD NO BUSINESS EVEN LOOKING AT and who later lost them.

My kids could look at the cost of the house, their salaries (combined) and know something was bad.

But they were tricked !

Yes, they were tricked. When someone gave them a diploma that said they were smart, they should have figured out it was useful as toilet paper.

Jesus didn't live in a Democracy. I don't think the Jesus I've read about would have a problem with the people choosing to put policies in place that would help the poor or the sick. He'd likely support them wholeheartedly.

Haven't the RWers been arguing that we are a "Christian Nation"? Don't they want to use their religion to make policies that would prohibit abortion and gay marriage? Why is it "okay" to legislate that part of your religion, but not the part that says you need to take care of "the least among us"?

O.K.

I stand corrected.

If Obama does not speak for Jesus...Seawytch does. :cuckoo::cuckoo:

You guys are always calling Obama "The Messiah"... so why shouldn't you equate his policies with Christ?

Not me.

I can't think of a more horrible sin than that.

No man on this earth is the Christ. Even Islam understands his one coming. Jews don't believe he's come yet. But no one messes around this. Not with faith.

I'm not a perfect human being. Far from it. I don't try to play that game.

I'm a Ted Nugent combo Chuck Norris kinda Christian trying to make their way thru life. And worse yet I'm a woman with a past. :eusa_angel:

But I don't ever try to play HIM.

This is disgusting that you would attempt to play politics and religion together.

Geeze. I thought you guys spent your whole lives fighting against Church and State being entertwined.

:eusa_angel:

Every man and woman on earth has a pattern of perfection known as the Christ within them.

We see it every day.

How does this apply to the question at hand.

Honestly, you really don't have a clue as to how to think about things. If someone rebuffs you, all you do is look for some work in your lists of spam notes and post it.

The pattern is almost to funny to be true.

If every man and woman had that pattern and it was evident, we would not need you creeps stealing from others to "feed the poor" (many of whom are pretty smart and have learned how to bilk the system).....including a great many politicians who are now lobbyists.

But you keep sleeping on your bible, some of it might actually sink in.
