China, Russia? Greece, some other Euro country.? All their problem. In the meantime we will work it out. Now there is an incentive to take profits as income because of the low tax rate.

First off, the verse you are trying to quote is "Blessed are the poor in spirit," Even a progressive Christian should understand that is not talking about money, which means you are either deliberately misquoting Scripture, or you are an ignorant fool.

As for the reason for the tithe, there were actually trhee tithes, so it would depend on which one you are asking about. The one you cited is actually the first fruits, know more commonly as Pentecost. You should be able to figure out what that represents, and why it was important to give the very best.
