Obama blames Founding Fathers’ ‘structural’ design of Congress for gridlock

Yep.

That pretty much is screwed up.

No idea when anyone thinks states with a population of 600,000 should have the same weight as states with populations 20,000,000.

Same with the Electoral College.

2 very undemocratic processes in the Constitution.

This was not a concern of the President when he ran for and won Senate in 2004, when Democrats took the Senate in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. Why and how is this being voiced by the President in 2014? Even if Republicans take the Senate in 2014, The President and the Democrats will have benefitted from the Founding Fathers vision more so than the Republicans when it comes to the Senate. A simple Thank You would be more appropriate vs. a smear and attack because one may not get his way.

To whom?

Personally? I've always thought the Senate was undemocratic and mirrored the "House of Lords".

It was even moreso before the 17th Amendment.

At least after that they actually had to win the vote.

Yes, the senate still has many vestiges of it's original purpose, to protect the rich from the rabble in a representative government.

In the name of equality and to correct the horrible wrong done by the Founding Fathers, Obama should dissolve the present states, create new ones, with equal population, even it would mean to transplant thousands of people to Wyoming, Alaska and some lucky ones, to Hawaii. And, of course, be mindful of racial mix, as well.

What a pathetic loser!

Naw.

Actually it would be nice to have a government more representative of the interest of the Majority of Americans.

It's called the House of Representatives

Every time this fool opens his mouth and whines about the Constitution, from it being full of "Negative Rights" for the Government to this latest whine, I have to wonder what exactly did this man "teach" during his time as a "Constitutional Scholar"?

I am beginning to believe that it sure wasn't that the Constitution was the greatest document to base a Country on.

Obama blames 'structural' design of Congress for gridlock - Washington Times

President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the “disadvantage” of having each state represented equally in the Senate.

At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.

“Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming. That puts us at a disadvantage,” Mr. Obama said.

The Founding Fathers decided in the “Great Compromise” in 1787 to apportion House seats based on population and give each state two seats in the Senate regardless of population. The solution was a compromise between large states and small states in a dispute that nearly dissolved the Constitutional Convention.

Let us watch the sheep on the left clap and say........................."Yeah, they were slave owners too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Twenty million freaks in California checked by 600K Americans in Wyoming? Sounds like a good idea to me.

I am beginning to believe that it sure wasn't that the Constitution was the greatest document to base a Country on.

From a person who was surrounded by marxism and socialist ideals his entire contrived life, it makes me feel good that the constitution annoys him. Tells me the constitution works.

However, the morons the left and the media, who is complicate in their agenda to destroy all of America and everything for which it stands, the number of morons that think like sallow or rightwinger are growing to more than 47%.

It is an obvious rigged game with the mass messaging coming from our former institutions of higher learning to institutions of lower living, the entertainment industry, and the media that it is all but done. Anyone that speaks the truth or sheds light on all of these things are relegated to buffoons. Even though we have been proven right about every issue, it does not matter. (You can keep your plan) being one example.

Thank the Lord for conservative radio and news outlets like that. That is until they find a way to ban that too. They are trying.

To get the Constitution ratified it had to appeal to nine states, and at this point it was already violating the Articles. To appeal to nine states it ended up a bundle of compromises, maybe not the best government that could be designed but the best that could appeal to the different sections of the new nation.
In any case the Constitution was not intended to be perfect but to appeal to the different interests of that period. But interests change and as interests change it was too difficult to change the Constitution. Our federal Constitution has been amended only 27 or really only 17 times, while Alabama has amended its Constitution over 860 times. So what has happened is that we meet out changing needs by other means, executive order is only one, court decisions another, and still another is bending the Constitution somewhat. And that use of the Court to decide Constitutionality was a big bender. Bending will continue with every administration and the other side will point out the bending sins.

Jillian
poor braindead shroom... don't talk about the constitution to people who actually know what it is. you sound like a moron.

It would appear that once again, you have decided to ignore the facts in your miserable attempts to support the worst President of the 20th or 21st Centuries.. Yes, IMHO, he has even managed to be worse than Jimmy Carter was.

Obama did whine about constitution being full of "Negative Liberties".

Can you point to another Document used at the founding of Country to guide that Country greater than the U.S. Constitution?

In addition to the above post on how we have changed, and are constantly changing the Constitution, I should add the Supreme Court even after making a decision regarding the Constitution has a practice of coming back and changing their words by editing. Nothing is permanent but change.

It's like a baseball player complaining he has to round the bases and can't go from first base directly home.

Did Obama actually go to law school?
