Now This Is Funny... Laura Criticizes Myanmar's Response to Crisis?

Nope. The mayor oversaw the biggest and most successful evacuation of a city in the history of the country. 97% evacuated.

The federal response was slow, just like it was after Hurricane Andrew. It took days before Bush got off his ass and noticed there was a problem. And you seem to be forgetting that he signed on to be responsible for the federal response.

Regardless, it is quite ironic that Laura Bush is crying over the treatment of non-Americans when our government couldn't be bothered with our own fellow citizens.

More lies, but then you are expert at them aren't you.

Give a shit? Kick her husband in the ass? Express concern over the terrible response by the US Government? Tell Barbra Bush to take a flying fuck?

Any and all would have been good.

How do you know she didn't?

The purpose of the president of the US and the us government is NOT to babysit people who have suffered tragedy. Disasters happen. People die, homes are lost, tornadoes strike. When those things happen, it isn't the president's place or the place of his wife to put on their waders and waste a couple of years digging through the rubble.

Nor is it their responsibility to jump start weird programs which will dump money into the pockets of carpetbaggers and the displaced who NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO BEGIN WITH.

The United States President is not the supreme commander of HUD or Meals on Wheels. He has bigger fish to fry. If the states screw up, let the states handle it.

What did Barbara do that was so bad?

You might not agree that the federal government should take some responsibility, but that's what they signed up to do. Shirking your duty is not an acceptable response to a disaster.

No, the government does not exist to build new houses for people who didn't have their own houses in the first place.
The government exists to protect us from invasion, from war, and to protect our freedom.

Was New Orleans being invaded by anyone but looters? Was there a war I didn't know about? And what freedoms were being violated that the federal government needed to address? Other than the freedoms that were violated by looters (and which the National Guard addressed)?

When Bush made FEMA part of the Department of Homeland Security, he signed up the federal government to be first responder to any national disaster. I'm not talking about building houses you nimrod. I'm talking about Bush not following through and sending supplies and rescue personnel like he promised to do.

And if the mayor could do it, kudos to him, and that means the federal government isn't needed.

The president is not personally responsible for seeing to it that people are plucked from trees when the infrastructure of any area is not adequate due to their own oversight. They screwed up, they paid the consequences, and eventually the feds stepped in and fixed their mess. But it's not the federal responsibility to be the first responders. That's a local thing. And they screwed up. When it was evident that they had, the government stepped in and cleaned up the mess.

Quit whining. The president is not the personal nanny of every sad sack who hasn't the foresight to deal with a predictable disaster.

Actually, he was. He signed up to be responsible for rescue. Do a little thinking. Blanco asked Bush to declare a National Emergency before the storm. He did. That made the Federal government the first responder.

Like I said, you can argue that the Federal government should take no such responsibility. But Bush did. And he failed.

The guy just plain sucks.

What is that supposed to mean? Anything at all. The government does exist to help in these situations last I checked, that's why it's there. And if we spend billions building Iraq, we should be able to take care of our own. Seems pretty simple.

And actually, a case can be made that the Federal government has a moral responsibility to the people of New Orleans to rebuild their houses. The houses were lost because the levees failed. And the levees are the responsibility of the Federal government.

Well it's TRUE. They didn't have anything, and they're getting brand new houses, financial grants, food, etc. It's a whole new start for them.

Dems just can't stand the truth.

umm.....the state has to invite, (ask) for federal gov. assistance in such responses. Unless Marshall law is declared...

Of course, according to many, George W. Bush sent the hurricane (that he made in his magic wheather machine) and sent it straight to NOLA to destroy all the black people that he doesn't care about. That hurricane should have been named George...

I don't necessarily agree with or approve of the response to NOLA, but the Feds couldn't (Legally) do anything about it until asked by the State. So blame the LA gov. for that one.

Ravir already said

try reading the thread..

Marie Antionette is a perfect example of why it's stupid to expect the government to "fix" every disaster. And you need to make up your mind, dumbass. Are you mad because we helped them? Or mad because we didn't?

Throwing goodies at a population which had nothing to begin with, doesn't know what to do with what it is given, and expects every need to be met by the government is NOT going to fix anything. It never has, it never will.

She followed SOP. She asked for help by asking him to declare a national state of emergency before the storm. That was exactly what she was supposed to do. He made the declaration but then he didn't follow through.

That's right. He should have been in waders, sandbagging.

Gimme a break.

No, that would have actually made it worse, he'd probably be useless at physical work that didn't include trimming hedges.

Excuse him all you want, he failed to do what he signed up to do.
