NLRB: College athletes can unionize

I do have to agree that many (certainly not all) college degrees are worthless. Four or more years spent sucking up parents savings and government loans on top to learn NO marketable skill. Hell, they don't even teach how to fill out welfare forms!

There are some degrees that are worthless in their field. But typically, an employer will choose someone with a degree over someone without one.

I am not working in the area for which I have a degree, but having a degree has gotten some doors opened that would normally not be opened.

And the degree choice is the student's to make.

But thanks for at least a valid argument.

They are students. The fact that they get a scholarship and/or play a sport does not change that.

The employees are the staff of the college.

My company hires subcontractors. They earn money for the company, but they are not employees.

Not even a nice try, guy. Keep trying.

They are being employed bythat university to make money for that university.

They are employees.

Deal with it.

So far, JoeB's argument has centered around the following points:

College degrees are worthless because I say so.

No, because a bunch ofthem come out off college, and can't even write their own resumes.

I should know, they come to me for that.

That's how useless a lot of these college degrees are.

Really laughable is the 22 year old kid with a three page resume.

College tuition is astronomically too high, because I say it is.

Well, no, because honestly, it doesn't cost $53,000 a year to provide classroom time. Especially with what some of these instructors are getting paid. Someone is making an obscene amount of money off a brand name.

Some kids and coaches have cheated, so all athlete's diplomas are worthless.
Someone is making a ton of money, so someone else deserves a piece of it.

lol

Is this the best level of debate we have on the topic?

I'm just wondering why you are shitting your pants about people who do the work seeing a fair share of it...

Again.

Probably because if people ever thought about it, they'd figure out the people making the most money are contributing the least to the process.

Actually, they are customers of the university. And they are offered a chance to pay for their education by using their athletic prowess.

Didn't you say earlier that employers are hiring college grads over people with experience? I'm glad you help people with their resumes. Most major universities have people who do that for their alumni. You must be dealing with community college grads.

And how do you know what it costs to provide a college education? Most have major grounds, a police force, massive administration costs, plus the buildings, materials, and the research that actually gets the universities their prestige and credibility. And how do you know what a professor at a major university is paid? Just driving thru campus doesn't tell you that.

I can see you do not understand what a university does or has. If you did you would know these things.

The person making the most is usually the head coach. At the Univ of AL, that would be the case. And he is the one who is the reason the team has won 4 BCS Championships in 5 years and has made millions in profit for the UA.

Again, if you have nothing substantial to offer, just sit quietly and let the grownups discuss it. I have cajoled, prodded, and worked to get a decent debate from you in 2 different threads. You offer little except what you WANT and almost no facts to support it.

Since these jocks are paid in tuition credit (never any cash, right???) then it's going to be interesting to see how they come up with the scratch to pay their union dues and make mandatory political action "contributions".

Yes, that is one thing you got right. They are making a lot of money off of a "brand name". But that brand name is earned over decades of academic and research excellence.

If you were on trial for your life, would you want a lawyer who went to Harvard or one who went to Wichita State Community College?

That will be tricky, won't it? And the union certainly won't waive the dues for students. lol

It's the best you can expect out of that idiot.

Once you pay them a salary, they lose their amateur status.

Once they lose their amateur status, they are no longer able to compete at the NCAA level.

The NCAA will hold their position, and students will have to decide if they wish to play or not.

Most of the kids are fortunate to be able to play football for a free ride and a college degree with no debt.

Well they will get paid now. They can pay for their tuitions. Win win.

I've seen the kinds of resumes that universities write for these kids. You can tell this is a civil servant just trying to get it over with.

Most of these things are subsidized, so, no, it's really a huge ripoff. Now, you might think it's okay for kids to get out of a college with a degree that cost left them in $200,000 in debt, but most decent people think this is fucking obscene.

Guy, i bitchslap you like an abused wife every time you show up, and you're the one who takes it all personaly.

I mean, I know it's hard to justify why you are such a pathetic tool in life. But keep trying. Not to worry, you have Punkotard and Spidertroll worshipping at your feet.

I'd personally worry if I had trolls like that as followers...

Hey, maybe that union might actually make the universities make good on providing education.

NCAA gets an F when it comes to monitoring academic fraud - Frank Deford - SI.com

let's not forget, the system you are defending is the same one that produced Jerry Sandusky, and covered for him for years.
