Go ahead, tards, pound the final nail into the coffin that is your state. People are already moving away. Go ahead and drive them all out.

New York collected about $71 billion in tax revenue last year. In 2019, when the single-payer plan would be enacted, the state expects to vacuum up about $82 billion. To pay for health care for all New Yorkers, though, the state would need to find another $91 billion annually.

And that's the optimistic view. In reality, the program is likely to cost more—a lot more.

New York could raise my taxes by $100 a week and that care would still be more affordable and provide better coverage than what I'd get out of Obamacare.

Only you would never live to benefit from it. That's the point, and the problem, with single payer.

More expensive than all the subsidies, tax breaks and loopholes we give the rich who can afford health care worth a damn?..I dont care, its health care!... and your words are crock of shit and you fucking know it.

What do you do when the wealthy leave? That's the problem with simplistic thinking. Tax them too much and they simply abandon your country. Taking all of that purchasing power with them.

Yeah, sure retard. That will solve everything because it's not like the wealthy in New York are already paying the bulk of the taxes or anything

Time and time again cities, states, and countries have tried this and it never works out well. That is because the rich people and big corps will move elsewhere if you raise their taxes by large amounts relative to other places. Time and time again gov't entities use a static method to compute the expected increase in revenue without regard to the change in behavior of those who will bear the brunt of the tax increase. Tax rates are increased so the rich people and big corps pull up stakes and leave, taking their money with them. Or they invest elsewhere or in ways to avoid as much as possible those higher tax rates. End result is, the taxing entities NEVER get the anticipated revenue but they do lose jobs and businesses due to lower investments.

Where would the wealthy go? The remaining options are third world countries or countries where socialism and higher taxes already dominate. Do you think Bill Gates would be taxed any less in Canada?

Switzerland, Monaco, to name two.

Yeah. I'm not sure people realize what a radical move government health care is. It will massively expand the role of government in our lives. Our health care has become a 'ward of the state'.

States can't go this alone, just won't work if one state does it. Look California is trying to go single payer and doesn't have the money. Now, if what they project in their legal marijuana taxes, that alone could pay for theirs, but what about other states?

This is a game of kick-the-can that starts with the false premise that it's unreasonable to expect families to pay for their own health. So you turn to insurance companies, then to the state. But then you say it won't work if only one state does it. So you want to push it up the federal level. How will that change things?

What state can pay for it? California senate passed without funds. I only advocate a combination of Medicare and if one can medically qualify for a private plan let them have the choice. If they don't want either let them go uninsured, I really don't give a damn if someone wants to go uninsured and take on the risk of losing everything over unpaid medical bills. It's free will.

Really? This flies in the face of most so-called health care reform for the last ten years. Why the change of heart?

I have never cared if anyone goes uninsured, I haven't and I think it's very irresponsible if one does but it's up to the individual.

Well, that was the mainstay of both ACA and the Republican replacement plan.
